Raising with Calling Hands

I have noticed that some players will raise pre-flop in late position against multiple limpers when the late player has what would normally be a calling hand. These are hands like JTs or 88. I understand the argument, and I will do this on rare occasion myself.

1. You have a hand that plays well against a large field.
2. You have position.
3. By raising, you may get the opportunity to make a play later in the hand that might win the pot or otherwise positively affect your result.
4. You might get dead money in the pot if the blinds fold.
5. If you are CO, you might buy the button.

My question, however, is this: I have begun to notice several players do this from the big blind. Am I missing something, or is there a way to justify this play?

it made you notice them, didn't it? raising 88 or JTs out of the bb after many limpers cannot be that -EV, but even online players will jump out of their seats if you make it to a showdown.

I've yet to do it, but if you've got the cards re-raise the 'Calling Hand Raiser' and see if he thinks his hand is worthy then? Just a thought.
