This topic is covered probably about once every week. So I doubt most people will bother taking the time to reply. But, I remember a few months ago asking the same question so here is what I came up with:

1) Theory of Poker - read, reread, rinse, repeat.
2) HPFAP - further explains important holdem concepts
3) Pot limit and No limit by Ciaffone/Reuben

Also check the archives...

So are most of the questions here. Actually most of them come up twice daily.

Anyway, the best PL/NL specific book by far is AZK's number 3: Ciaffone/Reuben "Pot limit and no limit poker".

Care is needed if you apply Sklansky/Malmuth HPFAP ideas too rigidly to PL/NL.

Sklansky's "Theory of Poker" is a must.

Mahmood's "Science of Poker" has some dangerous stuff based on hot and cold simulations, but does give good insight into the strategy of a player who is a known long-term winner at PL. Well worth reading.

Guy.

Slow down there. Obviously you're new to this forum...but I haven't been around forever either. If you have basic/general questions (how much should my starting NL bankroll be? how many opponents do you want when you're holding AA, etc.), then feel free to use the useful "Search Engine" in this forum...I'm almost certain it's a topic that we've covered on more than one occasion.

As Joe Tall would say...
Welcome to the forum,
RR

CNLPLH, NLTH, TTOP, SS. There's no complete book to cover it all. I don't recommend PLNLP (a general book) nor HPFAP (limit holdem) but I don't consider it a mistake to get them. There's something I have learned from most of the books etc., that I consider necessary, and generally it's about holdem too; understanding all about holdem is more or less necessary.
