Default Sorry, I am too shocked to not post this bat beat story.

$11 rebuy tournament on Stars I've worked my stack up nicely to around 17K, chip leader at the table.

Dealt to shaniac [Qc Tc]. I limp on the button for 200 (blinds 100/200 no ante) after one limper.

The SB raises to 600, BB calls as does the limper, as do I.

*** FLOP *** [Td Qd 2c]

Very nice flop for me. When the original raiser bets 1000 I am almost sure he doesn't have a set so my hand is good 99% of the time. I raise to 3000. He calls.

Turn is a 6h. Another nice card. He checks. I bet 5000. He raises allin for a total of 7765. It's a no brainer. I call.

Care to guess what powerhouse he holds that he a) raised out of position preflop b) called a big raise on the flop with c) check-raised allin with ZERO chance of winning the pot uncontested?

He turns over AsJs.

Since he only has four live cards in the deck and since I probably wouldn't be posting this if top two had held up, I'm sure you can guess what the river is. But the way he played the hand really makes me wonder if there aren't people who can hack into the system and see the next card out.

*** RIVER *** [Td Qd 2c 6h] [Ks]

AAAARRRGGGGH.

Comments on any aspects of my play here are welcome and if you can explain his play to me that would be welcome as well.

thanks, Shane

Uh, I think you played fine.

As to people playing the way your opponent did, some people just think that you are always supposed to raise pf with AJ and similiar hands. Recently, in a b&m multi, I had two players on my left that I know played that way (one proudly proclaims she "learned to play by watching the Travel Channel) and limp re-reaised all-in pf w/kk. I don't even like to limp re-raise w/AA. This was in the 1st few hands of the tourney. My oponent called with: AJo, and ATs.

shaniac-

I don't see what the problem is. He would have hit the nut flush if he hand just caught 3 more spades after the flop.

Bummer dude...

Man thats classic, coming from someone who is playing QTs in early position. Come on now you deserver to lose playing that trash out of position for a limp. Do you really want to be on a draw with blinds this big? You chase a hand, miss and you're almost broke. You're dominated by other trashy marginal hands. Sure its a bad beat but you deserve it playing that trash and playing its badly too. If you want to play a marginal hand like that you should at least try to steal a pot with it and hope to catch a good flop.

I think by 'early position' he meant 'the best possible position' to play a speculative hand like QTs.

I agree with BabyJesus and don't see anything constructive that I could add.

Thanks, curtains. Luckily I have my X-ray Sarcasm Specs on and, anyway, I understand your sense of humor.

Just to clarify: I WAS ON THE BUTTON WITH A HUGE STACK WHEN I LIMPED FOR 200 WITH QcTc. Okay?

For further clarification, the button is the person at the table who has the last chance to act at every point in the hand after the flop.

I was still on the button with QTs when I called 400 more getting 5-1. And I still had a big stack.

good night,
Shane

You think that's bad take a look at this. Thought I'd give Paradise $30 rebuy a shot, I don't know what in the world he was thinking, but I'll get my money in against him anytime. Bad beats happen they just hurt more when they come from complete idiots.

Sorry, Shane, but if you are shocked by an 4 outer hitting on the river, then you get shocked pretty easily. If you think that's a really bad beat, then I'm not sure you're cut out for MTT play.
