Default Lotto Strategies (OT)

It's been a couple of years since I bought a Lotto ticket, but somebody mentioned it earlier and prompted me to consider playing again. I don't just want to pick six numbers and buy a ticket with those numbers each week though - that seems pretty lame to me.

There seems to be a lot of theories and strategies around, many of which I suspect are bogus. Can anybody shed some light on some legit lotto strategies that can improve my chances of winning?

Simon

Never play 1,2,3,4,5 - 6. It's supposedly the most popular combination played so you'd have to split many ways if it did win.

Once in NY, a set of numbers hit that formed an upside down triangle on the lotto form. 60 people had to split, and it was back when the prizes weren't so large. Imagine thinking you won 3 mil and winding up with 50K.

Tip:

Pick numbers that are greater than 31. Reason being that if you hit, you will not be sharing the jackpot with those who picked their numbers based on the birthdays of themselves, their husband, their children, and the pet goldfish, etc., which is a fairly common way of selecting numbers.

Some people enjoy lotteries. Everything in life shouldnt be defined by EV. Would you want a pig-faced sugar mamma, or a hottie that holds her own?

Can't cite a date or particular lotto now, but It's not unheard of for a prize pool to be carried over several times, such that the odds of you hitting your 6 numbers (in New York anyway you pick 6 out of 54, I think) is a long shot, let's say 90 million to 1, but the prize is over 90 million on a $1 ticket.
