Pocket 7\'s vs. two random cards
I was in a home tournament last weekend, and one friend was playing like a total maniac during the rebuy period. We started with $1,000 in chips, and I was up to around $1,500. The maniac was on my right, and announced before even getting his hand dealt that he was all-in (alcohol helps fuel his courage). He was on the button for about $800. Everyone folded. I'm in the SB, and find 7-7. I thought for a minute, and decided to call.
He ended up having J-10, and hit a J on the flop. My main question is - I'm assuming I'm a favorite here against two random cards. Does anyone know what that is? Is there a website where you can run it against two random cards? |

Re: Pocket 7\'s vs. two random cards
i think the "random hand" is a hand like Q8o or J5s, so certainly any pocket pair is better than a random hand. now, would i call if a random hand moved in on me in a tourney like this with a hand like 77?
probably not. just wait for a better opportunity to put in all your chips. it's not like this is a NL cash game where you can just rebuy and it's all about EV. if you go broke you're done, and that should affect your decisions. |

Re: Pocket 7\'s vs. two random cards
Where is the random hand button on twodimes.net? Oh wait, there isn't one.
There is a chart that shows how each plays heads up (or 3-10 handed in no foldem). This is more of what you are looking for. And 77 is a decent favorite against a random hand, even 66 is. |

OK, my bad. Download Poker Stove if you want to run random hands. It's free.
77 is about a 2:1 favorite against a random hand. Lost Wages |

Re: Pocket 7\'s vs. two random cards
From my understanding of the program a "random hand" includes all possible hands including pocket pairs. If you download the program you will see this because it highlights all possible hands.

Re: Pocket 7\'s vs. two random cards
the guy announced all in before he received his cards
77 will win 66% of the time in a situation like this there aren't too many better times to call an all in bet *********** try the "Poker" programme at http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/.../programs.html - it's the best i have found for checking hands vs hands etc for example, you will see that red sevens beat black unsuited JT 52% of the time - bad luck |
