Worst Floor Decision Ever?
B&M tourney this morning. (Busted out 23rd, thanks for asking).
Anyway, this situation come up- Player A, moves all-in for T375. Player B,C and D just call. A is all-in so B will be first to act after flop. Flop comes. Player B moves all-in with a massive amount of chips. Players C and D fold. Player A exposes his cards as is customary when all-in and no further action can transpire. As player B is moving his chips back, with deft precision and before anybody can even mutter a sound, the dealer has player A's cards and the flop in the muck. The floor comes and after ten minutes of not knowing what to do, decides the hand is a misdeal and that everyone gets their chips back. INCLUDING THE TWO THAT FOLDED PRIOR TO THE DEALER MISTAKE. You can't retrieve cards from the muck so this is a tough spot. But you can't penalize the all-in player for the dealer mistake. I think the right thing to have done was to split the pot between the last two players. Returning all bets and declaring a misdeal appears to be the worst of all the choices. What would you have done? |

Re: Worst Floor Decision Ever?
Here's what I think the choices should be 1)The hand is dead and the two live remaining players get their chips back, and the two chop the remaining pot. 2)Even though you can't pull cards out of the muck, you can't fold a players live hand either, so retrieve them from the muck with the flop, or deal a new flop, and play the rest of the hand out, because the all-in player risked his whole stack and should a)have the chance to quadrouple up and b)take the risk of being eliminated. Two wrongs might just make a right here. 3)This final option probably won't be very popular, but I think it's as fair as any of the others. Give the players back their chips, and cut cards for the rest of the pot, then definately BEAT THE DEALER SENSELESS!

Player A's cards were exposed. They were SEEN. As such, all you have to do is reach into the muck and pull out those same two cards. Similarly, the flop was seen, and you can pull those same three cards out of the muck. Then you shuffle whatever is left, and deal the turn and river. Or did you mean Player B's cards were mucked unseen? Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan) |
