Default Poker Tip

Hi Everyone:

Somehow I got on the Card Player Poker Cruise newsletter mailing list. Here's their poker tip of the month, and I thought some of you might want to comment on it.

Best wishes,
Mason

[ QUOTE ]
•Poker Tip of the Month
Don’t play suited hands in hold’em that you would not play if they were unsuited. For example, many people play hands like Q-5 suited or J-7 suited, yet they wouldn’t dream of playing these hands if they were offsuit. Being suited does not add enough value to garbage hands to make them playable.

In my opinion those hands are (J5 Q7) are vitually unplayable but in very loose games they could still be +EV. However I wouldn't play 78o or 67o but I can't wait to get into a pot with suited connectors like this. basically I think this tip is a bit sweeping and slightly incorrect.

Seems like common sense to me, but then again, I was schooled by the best.

(I had a really terrible beat yesterday some knuckle head who called PFR with a J6s and landed quads - so you never know when those unplayables become gold mines. )

What a load garbage. Some of the worst advice I've heard in a while.

I don't think the tip is really clear. What do they mean by "do not play"?

Don't complete a small blind? Don't defend an obvious blind steal attempt? Don't call on the button when everyone has limped in? Don't attempt a steal against two tighties in SB and BB?

I would call in the SB with Q5s all day if there were a few limpers to me, for example.

considering their sucker audience is paying over 100/yr for a subscription, this is not particularly surprising.

I'd like to ask the author what he would do with A-Ts on the button behind four limpers, and if he would do the same thing with A-To.
