Default Kurt Warner in the Lord\'s hands

From ESPN.com article:

[ QUOTE ]
Warner, meanwhile, said Tuesday he wouldn't speculate about where he might be playing football next season.
"We'll sit back and pray about it," Warner said, while attending a fundraiser for the Foothills Community Christian School in Great Falls, Mont. "There's a lot of places that I would like to go. I'm not looking at what's best for me, I'm looking at what's best for the Lord and spreading his message."

[/ QUOTE ]

Rejoice! Another athlete not interested in money...much like A-Rod, who declared - without laughing mind you - that his top goal was winning when he signed with the Rangers a few years back. I can only assume that the Lord will tell Kurt and his embarassment of a wife where to play, and he'll simply play for the league minimum - he is, after all, only interested in spreading the Word.

Also - how will the Lord comminucate to Warner where to play? If the Lord communicates that to Warner, wouldn't he be able to communicate his message to non-Warners? If so, why does the Lord want or need Warner to spread his message? Is he that short-staffed or pressed for time that he needs to take on an aging, concussion-ridden QB as a messenger? Inquiring minds want to know.

First of all, Warner is getting cut and is not a free agent. He has come upon some very tough times and has handled it well and has not complained. I can only imagine how most stars of his (former) caliber would handle being demoted to the bench whicle purportedly healthy. Nevertheless, the man never whined or complained, and he gave full support to Bulger.

He has never wavered in his awoved love for his religion. Nothing wrong here, he is not a flake about it, and he does not go overboard. He has taken a lot of flak about being a Christian athelete, but he does not apologize for devoting his life to his Lord. At the very least, you should allow Warner that choice, one he does not push on others. If you want a reference, look up what Iasac Bruce said about God's will after the Ram's Super Bowl win.

Finally, I think it is horrible to call anyone's wife a joke. She may be a joke on her own, but that should not inure to Warner. Nevertheless, Brenda spoke out a few times on radio (she was guest on a weekly Rams show) and said what she probably thought Kurt should say in his own defense. However, Kurt was a team player and was not going to lobby for playing time through the media.

All in all, for a man who's star shined as bright as anyone's in football history for 3 years, I would have to say he's handled his fall with grace.

Your derogatory comments are misplaced.

Reminds me of when Reggie White was a free agent (after his contract with Philadelphia expired), he said he would go where God told him to go.

So Mike Holmgren called White and left a message on his answering machine: "This is God. Go to Green Bay."

Seriously, I think Warner is a good guy and was a great player for a few years, but he is probably washed up after all the concussions and a decline in his skills. If I was running a team like Miami or Dallas (i.e. potential contender with crappy QB), I might think about rolling the dice with him for a year or two, but otherwise I think his days as a starting QB are over. Any team that plans on signing him better have REALLY good pass protection (Miami probably does not fall into that category)...

It's probably moot anyway, because the Patriots' are going to win the Super Bowl again next year.

There are a lot of big-ego small timers in pro sports, many of whom are sickeningly holier-than-thou. As much as I don't give a rat's patooty about what anyones' religious beliefs are, especially over-paid jocks, Warner is at the bottom of the list of people who deserve ridicule for public airing of private matters. Warner has always been a class act as far as modesty and about walking the talk about teamwork, unlike a lot of sactimonious clowns who think that "I" is the first letter in "team".

Yes, it's really annoying to hear about God's personal interest in pro sports. But Warner seems to be genuine and down to earth, and the last person deserving of being kicked around when he is down.

I don't know the reference. My point was that the poster was taking a shot at Warner's wife as if it was his fault. A person can be a joke on their own, but that doesn't mean those who love that person are jokes as well.

Actually, I never used the word 'joke' - I said Mrs. Warner was an embarassment, which she is. To quote an article by Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

[ QUOTE ]
Kurt Warner brushed off that incident as a case of a wife standing by her husband. But that's not how it played out in the Rams' locker room. Many of the players, already sick of Brenda Warner's media exposure, lost respect for him. He's their quarterback, their leader. Theoretically, he's supposed to be their spokesman, not his wife. Many felt she should stay out of matters relating to the team.

And they were right.

[/ QUOTE ]
Cook article

I know this - if my wife went on the radio and publicly criticized the decisions that my boss made, she wouldn't be my wife for long. Coach Martz gets to pick who plays. I get irritated when players whine about playing time - it's a complete disgrace for a self-interested outsider to do so (read: wife, agent).

"Warner is at the bottom of the list of people who deserve ridicule for public airing of private matters."
Au contraire. He's near the top. Unless you're wanting to support and applaud the actions his wife's taken over the past season or two, he's an equal partner in her actions. You can't seriously defend him as the standard for modesty and the team when his chosen life partner is out in public criticizing the team and by inference, bragging about her husband. (Claiming he deserved to play over Bulger based on the past two seasons is pretty ridiculous.)

"A person can be a joke on their own, but that doesn't mean those who love that person are jokes as well."
Absolutely correct. However, if you not only love a joke - to use your expression - but also support that joke publicly in his/her activities which led rise to his/her "joke" status, then you've certainly earned the right to share in the criticism.

Unfortunately, you have presented this problem in an inaccurate light, one that was also done so by Cook. This is not the case of one seeking out the radio as a forum to lodge the complaint, she did so on her own show. Of course, the real problem is that one purportedly in the media should not also have an interest in the subject. This is the problem here, and the conflict of interest reared its ugly head.

She is on a show to talk about football and the RAMS, any other "reporter" could have said what she said. Here, however, there is a problem because she is married to the subject.

This is quite different from what the wife of Glenn Rice did a few years back when he was on the Lakers.

For those that dont know, there was going to be a story done about this in Playboy, but the article was pulled for obviously controversial reasons. Mrs. Warner, than in her early twenties filmed 6 pornographic movies with Hot Nights Productions. I doubt you can get copies of these movies anymore.

She is NOT a reporter though - that's precisely my point. She's nothing more than a self-interested party spouting off in the media because another's coaching decisions are damaging her financially. If she was the local talk-radio guy, it wouldn't matter in the slightest. Indeed, there was legitimate debate (more the year before than this past one) about whether Warner should still be starting. However, her comments had nothing to do with even attempting to offer a reporter-type perspective - she referred to "we'll move on" and stuff like that.

How? I see two whiny women upset because their sugar daddy was losing some of his sugar - not much to differentiate the two really.

Goo! There is no reason for anyone other than Kurt to see that woman naked. See picture of Mrs. Warner in action.
