Default Poker Table - Legs

I read the excellent advice posted in the forum last month regarding the building of a poker table. I was successful in building the table top, however I am now looking for legs sturdy enough to support the table. Any advice is appreciated.

Table Dimensions: 40"x72"
Table: MDF Board, 0.5" foam, velvet top

1. Are banquet table legs sturdy enough to hold a table of this size?
2. What is the ideal Base Spread? 18", 24", 31", 37"?
3. How important is the size of the steel gauge?

Again, if anybody can help me out with some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Search back a few weeks in this forum. I saw a recent post where someone explained in detail how he built his table and that he used banquet table legs.

I found a source for 37" wishbone legs on the net

http://www.ebcoproducts.com/legs.html

Very good price (best I was able to find for that size) but you have to supply your own hardware

Another option is to fit your table top over a stand-alone folding table that you purchase. The poker table plans I offer on my site recommend this as a viable option to using folding legs alone, which can sometime be less sturdy when a novice installs them. You can frame the underneath of the table top so that if fits snuggly around the folding table. For all practical purposes, it will appear to be one unit, but you'll also have the flexibility to hang the table top on the wall in the garage and use the folding table for other events.

Home Depot sells a pair of banquet table legs for about $18.

When we built our table, we used an old student desk I had in the garage for the base. It's very sturdy and it's small enough that the legs don't get in the players' way. Plus, there's the added bonus of having drawers to hold chips, cards, and the cash box.

I looked into doing this as well, however I would be afraid that somebody might put too much weight on the table and woomph, chips go flying. The table is pretty heavy, so it may not do that, but nonetheless I would be concerned about it.

Thank you, this is one of the sites I found in my original search. With so many choices I needed a little guidance in what was best. The 37" wishbones seem sturdy enough. Thanks for the help.
