B&M 4/8 game.
Reasonable player very ABC postflop open raises UTG[he doesn't get out of line with his raises], folds to the CO who cold calls(he plays table sherriff and dials people up), and I cold call with AKs, SB folds and the BB(she is short stacked and will go all in on the flop for a partial bet) plays. Flop: A Q Jr no backdoor possible. BB checks, UTG bets, CO folds, I call, BB folds(I was shocked). Turn: 3 Bet, Call River: 3 Bet, Call |

You win, i like the check call on the turn but maybe a raise on the river? Just my II cents.

I guess your play was O.K., although I might still have raised PF, as this would have made your hand easier to play post-flop. Indeed, if you had three-bet then ABC's ongoing betting would have been much easier to interpret.
Nonetheless, I guess you have to call this down, even though you are losing to AA/QQ/JJ/AQ/AJ and chopping w/AK. The only logical hand you beat is KK, since it's difficult to see anyone with 88/99/TT continuing to bet on the later streets. |

I like it and think it's an excellent use of player reads. There's only one hand you can beat (KK) if the player really is vanilla.
Alternately, if you think he will be reasonably aggresive on the river I think you can raise it there and fold to a re-raise. That is, if he might have played TT and KQ like this. - Jim |

You think that raise will be called by those hands ?

Good point. New rule, no posting before coffee.

Why didn't you raise preflop? Postflop looks good. Once the CO and BB fold it sort of plays itself.

Given the description of your opponent, this is almost a fold. I wouldn't raise at any point here. What could you beat? AT, KQ, and that is about it. The most likely good result, is chopping with another AK.
Good luck, play well, Bob T. |

That's definately not the best flop for you, but why not raise him on the turn and see if he plays back at you? That would give you a better idea as to where you stand, and maybe win you the pot.

I have to say I agree with BobT that I should have folded. I put my opponent on 2 pair saw the turn like I should and shoud have bugged out when I didn't improve.
EP shows AQo to take the pot. |
