Reasonable chips for a home game ?
Sorry I know there are a lot of these kind of posts but I really don't know. I don't mind paying for a decent set of chips but don't need to go overboard.
What would be recommended ? |

Hi Tosh,
What your ballparlk on "reasonable"? .10/chip, .30 a chip, etc.. that should help get some more concise answers. Orange |

Re: Reasonable chips for a home game ?
If you don't mind players making change from each other, that I'd say 40 per player (with some large denominations) is fine for PL or NL. We play with $0.05, $0.10, $0.50, $1.00, and $5.00 chips.
For limit you'd probably want at least 50 per player. Any fewer and whatever chip the small bet is will run out quick. |

Re: Reasonable chips for a home game ?
I guess I don't want to pay more than $400 and would like 500 ish chips. So I guess <$1 a chip.

Re: Reasonable chips for a home game ?
How many players? Do you want to buy extra chips from the players or have extra rebuy stacks to add in?
For cash ring games, I have had between 6 and 15 players. I should have 500 more chips to go with my inadequate 400 in a few weeks. I had 200 white 100 red 50 green 50 black I couldn't give enough whites out and had to make change. I had these goals in mind, planned for 20 players buy-in $50 $100 $200 white 20 25 25 red 6 10 15 green 1 4 I will have 475 white 250 red 125 green 50 black I cut back a little on whites because of the chip case limit. |

Re: Reasonable chips for a home game ?
I'd like to be able to accommodate upto 10 players. Both cash games and NL tourneys. I'm thinking 3/6 for cash games and T1000 to start tourneys but I'm flexible on both.

Re: Reasonable chips for a home game ?
I got mine from thepokerchipcompany.com
They're a very nice middle-ground between the 11.5g chips on ebay ($.20-.25 each) and the $.95 protech custom chips. |

Re: Reasonable chips for a home game ?
For up to a the $1 range you could go with nice ones from pokerchips.com of the three spot clay variety. I went with protechs from thechipstore.com. There is a trip report a couple of threads down.
First thing is first - My suggestion would be to get samples from a couple of places first to see which you prefer. Most are free or cheap and you will probably find one you like more than the other. At the $1 range I think you could afford full custom from a number of places. Orange |

Re: Reasonable chips for a home game ?
I'd think hard about using different chips for the cash game than I do for the tournament games. It would really suck if someone took a couple of $25 chips from a tournament and then introduced them into your cash game.

Re: Reasonable chips for a home game ?
Personally, I have a 10-person home game and bought the following chip breakdown on EBay:
200 white 100 red 100 green 100 black For my 1-2 ring game, people buy in for $50, getting 19 white ($1), 6 red ($5), and 2 green (.50). If someone needs to rebuy, there are plenty of leftover red for that. For the tournament, people get $1000 in tourney chips, getting 10 red ($5), 10 green ($25), and 8 black ($100). Ater the final color-up, I sometimes introduce white chips as $500, but there are only a couple of them by then. Also, after the ring game, everyone puts their chips on the table, and I do a count to verify that the cash in equals the cash out. Don't ask me what I would do if the didn't balance out. |
