stud 8 bankroll requirements
Had a debate the other night with someone regarding variability in stud8. I feel like your swings should be less in this game than in a straight high game (stud or otherwise). My companion argued that there was more raising and draws to play in High low and the variance was greater.
I have two questions: Is the variance indeed greater in high low stud than in the high only games? What does this mean as far as bankroll requirements for stud 8? Is 300 BB still a good rule? Thanks in advance. |

Re: stud 8 bankroll requirements
Being a new poster, I think my question is either:
A) Incredibly hard to answer thus no response, or, B) Incredibly dumb and not worth a response I would settle for an answer for A or B . . . |

Re: stud 8 bankroll requirements
The stud board doesn't get a lot of traffic, so don't take it as an insult that no one's responded. I wish I could help you, but I don't know about stud bankrolls.

Re: stud 8 bankroll requirements
Thank you. I did not take it as an insult that there was no response. I was just wondering if the question was too vague. I realize that a lot depends on game selection and such . . .
I appreciate your response. |

Re: stud 8 bankroll requirements
My non-scientific answer:
I think I personally have LESS variance in stud-8 than high stud. Not really sure why, and have no stats to back it up. However I seem to more consistently win at stud-8 and have fewer large swings or big losses. This might be from the much more frequent winning of half pots. Someone may disagree with me here, I'd be glad to hear their reasons if they do. al |

Re: stud 8 bankroll requirements
It's true that there is less volatility in stud 8 than normal 7 stud, the reason is partly because of the half pots won, but the main reason for this is the lack of understanding among many players about what makes a good starting hand.
Thus a sound player can progress with far less chance of losing. Hope this helps you. |

I think my friend read something in Super System that backs up what you say. |

Re: stud 8 bankroll requirements
Bankroll requirements for stud/8 are smaller than for other games because (1) a good player doesn't get shut out of a pot all that often, and (2) his expectation is usually higher than in other games. If you don't play well, though, there's no helping you.

Re: stud 8 bankroll requirements
because both Andy and myself agree on the answer, I would suggest that you need to re-evaluate your response here. Both Andy and myself offered seemingly valid reasons for our answers, but you did not offer any valid reason for your secondary comments, except for that of no reply thusfar. Sorry hoss, I've been out of town!
I respect Andy's opinion greatly, tho of course he is not always 100% correct, and neither am I. But both him and I offered reasons to back up what we said, and are both frequent posters with obvious winning backgrounds in stud/stud-8. al |

Re: stud 8 bankroll requirements
The second post was just impatience on my part, no offense meant. Just wondered if maybe the question was bad you know. I appreciate the replys. I had read on Badger's site that the bankroll requirements for high-low were less and the expectation was better but I really couldn't give a sound argument as to why.
Thanks. |
