Default Raise or Fold

I am not clear on this concept

If I'm ahead I bet/raise
If I have bet odds on a good draw I bet/raise
If I'm not sure if I'm ahead I raise and fold to a reraise
If I'm behind I fold
If I have pot odds on a weak draw I call
If I'm against a constant bluffer I check call (& raise later)

is this the basic idea? too simplified?

Most of the time, YES. But sometimes you slowplay

I don't know what you exactly mean with bet odds... When you have a four flush most of the time yes.

No, again it depends. HU second or bottom pair might be good. In a crowd top pair weak kicker might not even be good. I wouldn't raise, just bet and fold to a raise.

Depends, draws, odds, opponents, ect.

Depends, most of the time you want a little more than just pot odds.

Depends, most of the time yes. Today I raised with AKo UTG and a guy cold called with A8o. I had seen him bluff a few times. Flop was Axx and we went like crazy on the flop and turn, so again it depends.

Yes!

too simplified? if you're playing higher limits. but for 0.5/1 games following these rules in addition to browsing these forums and posting hands is a great way to make a lot of money. for beginners/very low limits simple = better

I know, but he has to realize it isn't always that simple even at 0.5/1. Perhaps simple is easier but not better. When you just play by a couple of rules you don't become a winning player I think.

no offense but you are looking at it like blackjack and you are wrong. there is no standard play for every single move it all DEPENDS. poker is a game of reaction no just action.

Do you understand that all of your rules are hopelessly oversimplified? Good. Even micro poker is not that simple. However if I had ten minutes to teach you post-flop play, five of your rules would be a good start.

However, this rule is bad to the core. It certainly can be correct to fold to a reraise in some situations, BUT:

1. It is usually incorrect to bet/raise for the primary purpose of finding out if your hand is good. There are lots of reasons for betting hands that might be good, but this isn't usually one of them.

2. If you routinely let your opponents tell you when you should fold, I recommend you take up chess or some other game where you can see all the pieces. You will be eaten alive.

Good luck and keep studying.

Actually I do. I was hoping to get some discussion on the key ideas and thought processes one must go through in many general situations without involving specific hands.

There are plenty of specific hand discussions here and I do enjoy studying them. But most of my "Aha" moments from 2+2 come from reading posts about how to think (majorkong's for example. Also "What to Unlearn..")

I've studied many of your posts from February - precisely because they include thought process and rhetorical questions in the analysis. Same goes for several other good posters.

I am trying to put it all together.
