Re: 98s in the CO
Bet the flop and bet the turn. I'd probably check the river.

Re: 98s in the CO
It's very, very, very bad for you if no on bets the flop. Since you got lucky and someone bet, you should raise.
You could have and possibly should have also raised before the flop. You didn't lose as much money as you could have but don't let the results blind you from the fact that you could have made a lot more "longrun money." |

Re: 98s in the CO
Here's a question:
Is it "right" to always bet the draw if you flop 4 to the flush or the open ended straight? |

Re: 98s in the CO
With 7 people in the pot, it is a tragedy to let the flop get checked through if you have a flush draw.
The only time it's wrong to bet out the flop is if you believe the person behind you will raise, chasing people out of the pot, cutting down your implied odds. When you flop a flush draw, your biggest concern should be jamming the pot with as many bets as possible, given that there are 3+ people in the pot with you. Note that this isn't a semi-bluff. The semi-bluff is very ineffective in loose games, because a main element, the chance you will win the pot, is so small. This is value betting. |

Re: 98s in the CO
In the long run, if you bet a flush draw on the flop and get called by 2 people, you are at least breaking even. If you get called by 3 or more people, you are making money.
How about raising? If 2 other people call 3 bets, you're breaking even. If 3 other people call 3 bets, you're making a ton of money. Plus, betting and raising have other substantial benefits: 1. You may (not likely at .5/1) win the pot right there 2. If you're in late position, you may get checked to on the turn. If the turn didn't make your flush, you may be able to see the river for the price of a flop raise instead of a turn call. 3. At low limits especially, it disguises your hand. No one expects you to play your flush draw aggressively, so when you make it, it won't kill your action. If you don't bet your draws, you will never make money with suited connectors and Axs. |
