Default Going on a 2 week train trip to Europe - Which poker book to bring?

Alright, some of you might be saying enjoy the sights and stuff, but there are just some times when you're on a train at night and can't really enjoy the French countryside. So, I need help on deciding whether to buy TOP, HEPFAP, or WLLH. Out of these three, which is the best to take and read/study. My interests at this time are primarily limit games so I'm defaulting towards WLLH but your comments might make me change my mind.

Depends on your level of experience and expertise.

If you are very new to poker and limit hold'em, WLLH may be the book for you.

But if you've played enough to not consider yourself new, or if you plan to play higher than 3-6, then take either HEFAP or TOP.

Default NONE!!!!!

Blindfolk

This might come from the fact that breaks from work (ie poker) for me a far and few between... it also might come from the fact that travel is one of my hobbies and i try to make the most of any trip.... but why in the hell would you want to be thinking about poker when there would be so much else to do on the train? For goodness sake... get yourself some nice local wine (or beer) and some cheese and kick back and enjoy the ride. Make some friends and offer up some of your food and beverage to the local ladies on the train. Try practicing speaking the local tounge with some random stranger you just met. Or if your a little timid to strike up converstation with the local girls just hit on all of the american girls that might be on the train (HINT: american girls in europe are easy).

Of any advice that i have ever given on this board this is the one i say with the most conviction... LEAVE YOUR POKER BOOK AT HOME. Also.... if you are picking out a travel guide try to avoid Let's Go. Trust me on this one... do you really think people from Harvard know how to have a good time? Go for Rough Guide and/or Lonely Planet.

Hope this helps,
cubswin

PS when and where exactly are you going? maybe i can make some suggestions

Pick up No-Limit and Pot-Limit poker by Bob Ciaffone and Stewart Reuben. The europeans don't play limit.

Hi Blindfolk,

You mention France; well, as another poster already pointed out, they don't play limit there. (What's more, they HATE hold'em.) Other countries offer limit poker, though - Holland and Austria, for example.

As for the books: I would recommend taking some books that help you adjust to somewhat loose and highly aggressive play. In general, you can expect to find quite a bit of action games on your travels.

I loved your post. I used to live in AC, but now live in Las Vegas. I'm appalled by people who live in AC or other places with lots of poker who come here and do little besides play. They can get all the poker at home 24/7, but waste their money and time by passingup all the other things to do here.
Regards,
Al

dont listen to the rest of these people. they know not what they speak. the food except in the finest reataurants is terrible in europe. the air and water is bad and the people are socialistic. bring your own peanut butter jar and hi lo split poker book. plus being one of the thicker books it will come in handy for sitting on in some of those low slung chairs. enjoy your trip.

Not sure about the rest of his advice but bringing a jar of peanut butter is certainly the nuts (pun perfectly intended). It will save you a ton of money because you will eat at restaurants less and they are really expensive - even fast food joints (places like McDonalds tend to cost 2-3 times as much as in the states and in some cases are more expensive). You can also find crackers quite easily in grocery stores or small markets.

Given that you'll be walking a lot more than usual you won't mind the calories and peanut butter is quite filling. If you like or at least don't mind peanut butter I would reccomend taking a jar. If you have kids going on the trip take two.

As for poker books go with Super System by Brunson et al. It is entertaining, covers many types of poker, is widely considered the most important poker book ever written and is also very thick so you won't finish it on your trip.
