first post.. did I play this right?

I've been lurking for a month or so, and now looking for a critique of this B&M 3/6 game I played the other night:

I raise UTG with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], MP calls, button calls.

Flop: J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I check, MP checks, button bets, I raise, MP folds, button calls.

Heads up to the turn: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I bet, button calls.

River: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet 2 all in (thats the kind of night it was), of course he doesn't fold for $2, shows the J and takes it down..

Other than check-folding the river, what else should I have done?

First of all make sure you have enough money when you play a hand.
Preflop: perfect
Flop: I would bet out. My question is: Why do you check raise? I don't see any point in doing so...
Turn: Ok
River: I think you can check-fold but I might bet out depending on your opponent.

So I would probably bet, bet, bet...

There was no way your opp was folding top pair in a 3-6 game. So, other than catching an Ace, King, Queen or diamond on the turn or river, you played it very well.

Preflop fine, flop - you should be betting out here not c/r. Once you checked you should have smooth called. You want to keep people in for when you hit the flush, or one of your overcards. If you bet out and it comes back to you raised you can think about reraising at that point (and usually should in a case like this).

Turn was fine. On the river I check and call/fold depending on opponent.

PS - It's usually a bad idea to get involved in a hand without enough money, for lots of reasons.

You are probably right.. I suppose I thought I had tons of chances to make my hand (Q, K, A, diamond) and was likely ahead.
If he capped it after I 3-bet, I would check-call the rest of the way, unless I hit my diamond or Q.

Also, I almost always rebuy before getting too low on chips. But that day I had been cold-decked and sucked out on like nobody's business, and decided to go home if my chips ran out.

Welcome to the forum btw... You don't know if you're ahead or not but you're probably not going to find out by check-raising because not many players will 3-bet you. And even if they are you don't want to face a 3-bet. Just bet out and call a raise and take it from there. It's true that you have tons outs but at the moment you have nothing and you don't want to drive people out when you have only two opponents.

Just bet out on the flop. There's really no reason to checkraise.

Also, as others have said, make sure that you have enough to play the hand. Here's some motivation for you. Yesterday, I was playing 4/8, got down to about 30 bucks, was just about to rebuy when I'm dealt 44. Anyway, a bunch of players are in the flop comes 544. The turn was another 5 and both of the fives were active. I cost myself about $120, as they went crazy on the turn and river.

First of all, welcome to the forum. Now, I am not sure why you check raise the flop. I would bet, and I guess the villain in this hand, will likely just call. IMO if you are on a draw then you want to save the bets that you do not have to make. Good luck
