Default TT from UTG

Hand converter seems to be down this morning, so here goes:

Party 0.50/1 Only played about 20 hands or so, so no particular reads on anyone yet (except the usual "wow, can't believed he played those two cards" )

Hero is UTG 8 players

Hero is dealt T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Hero raises; EP1 calls; EP2 folds; MP1 calls; MP2 calls; CO folds; Button folds

(4 players)
Flop comes: Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Hero checks (I think this is my first mistake); EP1 bets; MP1 calls; MP2 folds; Hero calls

(3 players)
Turn comes: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Hero checks (and is starting to get that "calling station" feeling); EP1 bets; MP1 folds; Hero calls having picked up the open ended straight draw, but still not feeling very good about it.

(2 players)
River comes: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Hero checks (of course); EP1 bets; Hero folds

I feel like my check on the flop set me up for this. I could also be overthinking a straightforward whiff on the flop. Thoughts?

I think you should fold the flop. Preflop was fine, but since you got 3 callers you'd have to think that at least one of them has a Q or J so you're behind. You can check to make sure of this if you bet out and get called, but since EP1 did that for you I think you can fold safely.

Either bet the flop, or check-fold. You have 2 outs to make a set that might/might not be clean (they put a 3-str8 on board). You also have a backdoor str8 which counts for about 1.5 outs. But there might be a flushdraw against you here, so we'll need to discount the actual number of outs (since you can make the str8 but loose to a flush). So you're calling when the pot is laying you 12.5:1. If we discount the total number of outs to 3, then you're a 14.3:1 dog.

But if you feel that your opponents play really bad and will pay you off if you make the set, then the call can be made. But then it's better to bet right out on the flop.

I think folding is optimal. For the previous stated reasons but also because your position stinks. Betting that flop is asking for a semibluff raise.

Easy fold. Your next two cards will come very quickly.
