Default Lynksys wireless router.

I am connected at 11 mbps, what is the max for this? I don't really know much about this wireless stuff. What I do know is that its hooked up to my cable modem and I can now bring my laptop to the can. Are there any tips to get a faster wireless connection?

Thanks

Depends on the type of router. Sounds like you have 802.11b which max speed is 11 M/sec

802.11g maxes out at 54 M/sec. I just purchased one with turno ability that maxes at 108 M/sec. Total investment $140 for router and PC card.

Great technology.

Also 11 M/sec is faster than most any internet connection. You should be fine.

Speed wise B and G will be the same for the home internet user. DSL and Cable max out somewhere around 3mbps. The only thing G is good for is better enctyption through WPA instead of WEP.

If you have a cable or DSL connection you dont really need more than 11Mbps. I have one of the fastest residential cable connections in the country and only get 10Mb downstream speed

Did I waste money buying a wireless-G card instead of a B (granted it was only like $10 different)?

If you want to copy files between your machines or if Cable/DSL/whatever is new figures out a way to get above 11mbs, then you'll be happy with .11g
