Why is Grannie Mae called that ?

I've seen Grannie Mae referred to several times but have been unable to find the story of why Q5 (spades ?) is called that. It sounds like it would be an interesting story. And also, what does the abbreviation CO mean ? Thanks for any answers !

CO is usually CutOff...the player just before the button. A raise from this position is more likely to "buy the button" than raising while several people are still left to act.

Granny Mae was one of the most respected poster on this forum, both for her poker skill and unique humor. Saddly, she is not whit us anymore... and never will be back...

I'm pretty sure this was a hazy theory, and it doesn't explain why the suit of spades is prevalent. Mike Haven started the whole deal off but I don't think he could even recall why it is Q-5 spades.
