Default S&G bankroll specs

Hello all,

I've heard much about the 300xBB bankroll for limit games, but haven't heard anything specific on how much BR these S&Gs require.

I plan on starting with $5 one- and two-table S&Gs at Stars, how much do I need to handle the swings (or find out if I suck).

Thanks in advance.

Hi William,

Im gonna say around 10 times the buy in, i started playing 5+1 single table at party poker with 50$ and i ever need to cash in again... when i got up to 100$ i switched to 10+1 single table and im still doing good... i think 10 times the buy in is a good bankroll to start with!!

10x Buyin is definately not enough to gaurentee you will not go bust.

It is far from uncommon for people to go on losing streaks of 15+ tournaments (read nottom's recent post)

Yes, you may well be fine with only 10x. But that is not a SAFE amount.

Of course you have to remember that it doesn't matter how big your bankroll is if you are a losing player....

Play 200 SnGs. If you are a net winner after that then you can *begin* to say with some confidence that you can beat that level.

Listen to Perkin, 10 is way too low. I do alright, and I've had many 6 game losing streaks, 1 8 game losing streak, and my fair share of 1fer10 type streaks.

one other thing, I started off winning from the getgo playing 10+1's, not so much because I was good, but others were so bad. I might be way behind the learning curve, but it took me a good 500 of these before I truely learned how to play them well (still no expert by any means, but I feel like I'm getting there) I guess my point is that there's no shame making easy (even if only small amounts of) money taking your time to learn how to play Sng's.

10 Buy-ins is definately not enough. I've been on a steady upclimb and have had more than 10 Buy-in swings to the downside.

I've done some simulations that suggest 30 should be enough.

I consider myself a decent player and am in a 20+ buyin downswing.

if you suck- no br is big enough. my adice- dont play tourneys until you have a strong-competitive-profitable live game.

For the 5's and 10's I find 20 is sufficient. I'd stress though that if you lose 5 in a row, stop playing for a while. Regroup and then start up again slowly. I find the losses tend to come in bursts as you try to make up for the recent losses.
