Difference between low limit and mid/high limit game?
If you're a winning low limit player (extremely tight, aggressive, not much bluffing), why can't you also win higher limit games with the exact same style? Generally the hands that beat your top pair w/strong kicker in low limit are monster inside straight chases or freak two pairs on the river. I'd imagine these type of hands show up less with tighter players and therefore you'd win at the same or even a better rate?

Re: Difference between low limit and mid/high limit game?
Higher limit players also know how to play tightly.
You make your money against low limit players by showing down a good hand. Against a high limit player, are you going to show him TPTK on a coordinated board? Even if you DON'T have the cards, you could represent them, and get away with it, because the other players are aware enough to realize that they might be beaten. In summary, you won't get paid off when you have a hand, and you will lose a lot when you make second best and don't realize it if you play the same way at higher limits. |

BTW,
These hands do show up, but usually as a back door, such as when somebody makes 2 small pair chasing a flush or straight draw that had good pot odds. |

Re: Difference between low limit and mid/high limit game?
You're not considering all of your bread-and-butter type hands which make you a winning player in the first place. You know the type - you raise PF with AK, flop comes Kxx and you get called down all the way by a moron or two with an underpair or a gutshot or K3o or whatever. And, most of the time, you win here. But with players who play well after the flop, they're not going to pay you off with these crapola hands, so you're win rate won't be nearly as high (in BB/hr).
Of course, that's not to say that a winning low limit player can't beat mid limit games with thinking opponents. |

Who said it could not get done? I'd imagine these type of hands show up less with tighter players and therefore you'd win at the same or even a better rate? Flawed logic, others will elaborate. |

Re: Difference between low limit and mid/high limit game?
At win rates of 1 or 2 bb/100 hands, it doesn't take many of the plays that tougher players make (semi-bluffing, check raising, etc) to make a difference. A difference that due to sd might take a long time to become apparent.

This sentence alone shows that you do not understand what exactly is making you money in poker. You make money because people chase gut-shots or other incorrect draws. Occasionally they will make it, but every time they chase a draw with incorrect odds, whether they make it or not, they are paying you off. For every gut shot draw they make, they miss 10 more. Why on earth would you not want that? If no one draws without correct odds, you will make significantly less. |

Re: Difference between low limit and mid/high limit game?
the difference is that against good players, you will make the minimum when your hand is good and pay the maximum when your hand is bad. also, if you rarely bluff/semibluff, it will be very easy for your opponents to put you on a hand correctly, and play their hands accordingly (i.e. folding when beaten, trapping you when you are beat).
in short, you make money when your opponents make mistakes. the less mistakes your opponents make, the less money you will earn over time. --turnipmonster |

Thanks! (Low limit = More mistakes. High limit = Less mistakes.) [nt]
