When things are going horrible take that last stack to the cage or...
When things are going horrible take that last stack to the cage or play the tiny stack? Ive read a lot of stuff about when things are going bad leave the game, take those last few chips to the cage. Here are a couple of situations that have come up recently. 20-40 game buy in $400.00 Things are going horrible down to about $25.00 left thinking about quitting but decide to buy in for $200.00 more to take one more shot. Turn that into almost 3 racks about $850 profit.
20-40 game $500.00 buy in. Loose game but things are horrible and I'm down to about $80.00 ready to quit at my bb but decide to play just one more round for some crazy reason. Win a pot and turn that into about 3 racks $950.00 profit. What do you guys think about these situations? |

may be I am wrong but a 400 and 500 buy in, in 20-40 seems really lite so after losing around 400 i would not quit, 25 BB is usaully quitting time for me.

Losing $400 playing 20-40 is trivially easy to do, that's definitely not an automatic quit for me. If I've put it on the table, that means that I'm willing to play with it. If you buy-in for $500 then quit solely because you're at $50 or $100, then you didn't mentally buy-in for $500.
If you quit because you have trouble playing well after a $400 loss, then that's a completely different issue. |

all-in gotta win....
no matter what the limit, any time you don't feel comfortable to start EVERY hand with at least 10 BB in front of you it's time to quit, imo.

You're buying in way too little. I drop 10 BB's ALL THE TIME and it's really not big deal. In fact, I reload every time I get below 12 BB's. It sounds like you're playing way, way, way above your limits in terms of bankroll.

IMO, you need to buy in at least 20 bbs in 20-40, so 800 is the minimum. Once you start slipping, don't wait till you are down to your last 10 chips or so to rebuy. Your observant opponents will notice your short money and you will become a target.
As for whether to leave or go, your perception of the game and your own image should be the primary determinants. If you think the game is beatable, and you are a FAVORITE, go get more chips. If your image sucks and you think the game is too tough or too tedious, hit the road with those few lonely chips and come back tomorrow. GL and LGPG, Babe [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] |

Have you tried putting it all on the "hard six" at the crap table and letting it ride if you win? You're probably a bigger dog, but you'd make more money..

20-40 is my normal game at the Mirage. I buy in for $500 but only as a convenience. I go home at $1200, which is 30 big bets. I had an odd streak lately of routinely dropping 8-900 then coming back. If $500 is your comfort level, play 10-20, giving yourself 25 big bets.

I don't believe "things are going horrible" if I'm down only $375 or $420 in a 20/40 holdem game. I would call it ebb and flow. What was your question?

Exactly. For example, I've dropped a little over $2500 in the last 120 minutes playing 3 tables of 15/30 online, and playing it well. Swings happen; it's just part of the game (though this is THE WORST downswing I've ever had this week at ~$5350). If you can't deal with a 10 BB downswing without thinking "things are going horrible," you're going to have a really tough time when real swings come your way. GoT |
