Default Update on Sklansky\'s ranking of games??

In Poker, Gaming & Life, in the essay "For the Studious Player", David ranks games as to which is best for newer players who have a lot of book learning, but are short on experience. The list runs from best (Lowball Draw) to worst (NLHE).

The list does not mention several games, including Limit Omaha and Omaha/8, probably because they have grown greatly in popularity since the book was written. More importantly, I am interested in a parallel analysis for Internet play, which was virtually non-existant at that time.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or info.

I assume you meant to list Lowball Draw at the top of the list, seeing as though it is mentioned in the text?

add pl or nl in front of ANY of those games and they all become the worst for newbies. especially nl kansas city lowball draw.

lets just make it simple. limit poker, of any kind, is good for newbies, wimps, girls and nitwits. big bet poker is for the true afficionado and should not be tried by 1st timers unless they have balls and enjoy the finer things in life.

LOL !
You remind me of the honda commercial where the guys are about to bunji jump of a bridge and see the other guys playing beach volleyball with some babes down below. The would be jumpers realized the error of their ways and joined in the fun.

if you want a nice straight forward FRIENDLY card game, limit omaha 8 is a great choice. The only drawback is that in brick & mortar casinos its slow. Online its plenty fast for most people. If you are a newbie you will find out that if you just read a book and go play holdem you will think you know a lot but you won't know sh*t, which is exactly what the pro's want. Nothing better than an arrogant idiot at the table.

you got my analogy, that was the point. It depends on why you play.

Play for Ego and impressing other men ? play no limit or pot limit holdem.

the only problem with that is that you can't find it in a casino. In fact the casinos near me only offer holdem, omaha, and stud.
