Default Pop Quiz, Hot Shot...

You're new to a 3/6 online game that is a tad more aggressive than is typical

You are in SB with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

It folds around to the button who limps

Your move.... (show your work for partial credit )

Hi BottlesOf,

I would raise only if the BB is very tight and the Button isn't very tricky. Otherwise I'm just calling.

-Brian

[EDIT] Folding isn't unreasonable if the Button knows better than to limp when first in, and thus probably has a very good starting hand.

I have to put in a raise with this hand and bet the flop, regardless of what lands there. If there is any drawing hand or I pair on the flop and the SB bets, I raise.

Complete and hope for hearts or A4. Even a newbie like me knows that a button limp there is a trick. The ace pairing could be exactly what he wants. The fun part is figuring out how to extract the maximum from button should you flop or turn a flush.

It could be a trick. But if I'm new to the table, I assume everyone is pretty much an idiot. So I raise.

I don't think it makes any difference whether you have A4s or A4o, it all depends on your take on the button and the BB.

Raise it up. If the flop comes rags or you hit an ace the pot is probably yours. Even if you end up getting beat by a better ace, you'll get more calls later because people saw you raise with A4.

folding might be good here. If this is an agressive table and he open-limps on the button, that says he obviously doesn't want to steal the blinds, meaning he may have AA,KK,QQ going for limp-reraise. Strangely, I fear a open-limp on the button much more than an open-raise. (Unless it's a passive table where nobody raises PF anyways). In fact, if he open-raised instead of open-limped, I'd re-raise.

I smell a rat, but raise anyway. If he limp-reraises, so be it.

Oh, and shoot the hostage.
