Vegas/Gambling Tunes
I make the drive from L.A. to Vegas twice a year which is a great time to listen to tunes (five hours through the desert). Any suggestions for Vegas or gambling related songs? I know I'm missing a bunch of them, and need to make a new CD for my upcoming trip at the end of January. Right now I include the following (some dorky, please don't judge me!:
Viva Las Vegas - Elvis This Town - Sinatra Luck Be a Lady - Sinatra Girl From Ipanema Girls Girls Girls - Motely Crue Drop Dead Legs - Van Halen You're Nobody Til Somebody Loves You - Dean Martin The Gambler - Kenny Rogers Funk #49 - Joe Walsh It's in the Way That you Do it - Eric Clapton Stuck In the Middle With You - Dylan Some of these songs are obvious, some are from gambling movies, and some I just associate with Vegas. Any and all of your insight and ideas are welcome and much appreciated! Thanks! Sparks |

"Stuck In the Middle With You - Dylan"
that's not actually Dylan. its a band called Steeler's Wheel (you'd know this from watching Reservoir Dogs) Dylan has a bunch of songs that are somewhat gambling related. the titles escape me. also, i posted in the N,V,G forum a while back about a possible paper i was writing, and i got responses on this. some of them were as follows: "Deal by Tom Hall 1975 Kentucky Gambler by Dolly Parton The Gambler by Don Schiltz Ace Of Spades by Motorhead Aces - by Suzy Bogguss Angel And The Gambler (The) by Iron Maiden Blackjack by Ray Charles Bottle of Smoke by Pogues Calcutta Auction by The Michael Stanley Band Card Cheat (The) by the Clash Casino Queen by Wilco Cincinnati Kid (The) by Ray Charles Cowboy junkies lament by Townes Van Zandt Deacon Blues by Steely Dan Deal by Grateful Dead Deal by Tom T. Smoke! Smoke that Cigarette! by Tex Williams St John the gambler by Townes Van Zandt Still the Same by Bob Seger Strangers Song by Leonard Cohen Summer Wages by Ian Tyson There's A Place In The World For A Gambler by Dan Fogelberg Three Card Trick by Clash Truckin' by Grateful Dead Turn of a Friendly Card by Alan Parsons Uptown Poker Club by Jerry Reed Walking Away A Winner by Kathy Mattea We're an American Band by Grand Funk Winner Takes It All (The) by Abba Atlantic City by Bruce Springsteen off of Nebraska I Got the Horse Right Here: Guys and Dolls Stewball: Peter Paul and Mary Camptown Races: Stephen Foster "Crazy game of Poker" - Oar "Ace in the Hole" - George Strait "Queen of Draw Poker Town" - Hank Snow "Two of a Kind, Workin on a Full House" - Garth Brooks "You're my Best Poker Hand" - T-Bone Walker "Viva, Las Vegas" - Elvis " those were all cut and paste from that thread. hope that helps... i strongly suggest any of the selections from Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt. |
