Default Mandalay Bay 4-8: Folded 10 outer on the flop

This is at the Majorkong/Clarkmeister table. The blinds are $1-$2 and the bets are structured $4-$8.

Preflop: I am UTG and I raise to $6 with KQo. MP1 (who has been raising much PF, and has not shown down many hands) makes it $10. I am pretty sure he is clued in enough to put me on a good hand with an UTG raise, and this is his first 3-bet preflop (that I have noticed at least). Everyone else folds and I call.

Flop: T 9 3 rainbow

I check, he bets, I fold.

(CM or MK, correct me if I described the $10 PFR wrong).

That is a deceptive title. You folded a 4-outer on the flop.

I see 10 outs (3Ks, 3Qs, 4Js)...well worth a call IMO. Who knows what his opponent is sitting on...maybe a quality pocket pair like AA/KK/QQ/JJ or AK/AQ/AJ/TT or some small pocket pair.

I think a bet on the flop is important here, if you are checking...plan on folding (as you did). If you bet and get raised...then you have a better idea where you stand.

I just think you gave this hand up too easy, but I also think the KQo raise from UTG is overplayed. Wondering what others think about the KQo raise from UTG...especially considering the blind structure, as a steal doesn't have much value (not even 1SB)

I am using the term "out" to refer to a card that will give you the winning hand. Not just a card that will improve your hand.

It is likely that his actual outs are between 4 and 10. I think closer to 4. He is getting pot odds of of 9:1, so I think a call is order, but he might need to fold unless he makes the nuts.

Actually it's only 7:1 or so with this structure...

Whoops! I divided by 3 instead of 4. Your good, Homer.

So its 7:1, do you think she should call?

I think she did the right thing by folding. A Jack is the only clean out.

tsk tsk...all this time and you don't know rharless is a 'she'?

I'd call and probably check-fold the turn and think, wow, I suck at poker. Crappy hand, out of position, sucks, move on.

My apologies rharless. Please excuse my use of the masculine pronoun.

Wondering what others think about the KQo raise from UTG

I raise it over half but not all of the time. In this structure I think it is even more important to raise it pf.

Plus, I know with an UTG raise, I probably won't have to deal with kong or clarky playing against me. There's a LOT of value in that one.
