Default Did I make the right move?

I played in my first one table tournament last weekend. Eight player, limit 7 card stud, with table winner receiving $500 voucher for entry into Taj main tournament.

Here is the situation:

Heads up with my opponent having 1600 to 800 chip lead on me. Ante is 15 with 25 bring in playing 100 - 200. On the previous hand my opponent announced that he had to leave and would be raising blind on every street. He gets the bring-in with a 2 and I call with an Ace and Queen in the hole. On 4th street I get an Ace and he gets an off suit 3. I bet 100 and he raises. At this point I continued to reraise until I had my 800 in the pot.

My thinking:

1 Get all my money in with the pair of Aces
2 If I win the hand I take a 2 to 1 chip lead and can wait for a favorable situation before I get his remaining chips into the pot.

Was this the right plan?

As it turned out I didn't improve the A's and he won the pot with two pair.

If you're sure that what he said is the truth, and you're also pretty certain that his hand is garbage, I think you made the right move. (results aside.)
