Analysis of Buy-In?
Hey everyone!
Is there any significance to someone who buys in for 500 BB? Last night I was at a Party 0.50/1.00 table, and this guy sits down with $500+, easily 10x what everyone else has. So my thought process reduced it to: 1) Is he a maniac? 2) Is he trying to look like a maniac? 3) Did he simply push the wrong button and bought in for all the money in his account? Re: Analysis of Buy-In?
His buy-in shoudn't concern you as much as his play. He probally has a small penis.

Re: Analysis of Buy-In?
When I see someone (who I have no read on) sit down with an abnormally large buy-in for the table, I make a note of it. I don't automatically assume he's great, but I do give him reasonable respect until play shows otherwise.
Some folks just carry their bankroll around with them from table to table. I suspect that some are hoping to project some kind of "look how good I am" bully image. The "penis" comment form the earlier post is likely valid as well. I've seen some regulars sit down at a 1/2 table with anything from $20 to $500 in no particular order. I saw one player sit down with $27 and then chip up to $300 after a few hands. Did he find a great game and decide to camp? Who knows. I tend to be more watchful of those who sit down under chipped and keep rebuying after all-ins. But I just don't put a lot of substance into buy-in amounts in general. |

Re: Analysis of Buy-In?
I have no analysis, but I did see something funny like this. The game was 4-8. A guy bought in for what looked like $1500 and built a pyramid of chips. He lost about $500. He still had more than enough to play 4-8 with, but his pyramid was messed up. He went to the cashier, bought in for $500 more, and rebuilt the damn thing.

Re: Analysis of Buy-In?
He may be a regular player at a higher limit who has had a bad run at his usual limit and is playing at your table to let off steam / book a win / get comfortable about his game again.
Buying with such a large stack might be part of getting himself to feel comfortable; basically knowing he can't lose the stack (easily). Be on the lookout for loose play and make the most of it. |

Re: Analysis of Buy-In?
Hi fluff,
As a quick, initial read, coming in for a huge buy-in usually tells to loose, aggressive, flashy play. But this is an initial read, and obviously you have to adjust it once he starts playing. Cris |

Re: Analysis of Buy-In?
I'll agree with Letsrock on this one, you have to click on a button to bring the entire roll to the table, so it's a concious decision to do so. It is purely an intimidation factor in my opinion,
but hey, it's only my opinion. |

Re: Analysis of Buy-In?
I would read zero into this buy-in. Disguising your stack is common practice on line, but this would be similar to hunting ducks with nuclear weapons.

Re: Analysis of Buy-In?
Hey, I have a small penis, and I only buy in for the standard 15-20 BB, so let's not pigieon-hole us little-dicked fellows.

Re: Analysis of Buy-In?
That's not what it said.. If you have a huge buy-in,
you probably have tiny cock.. Not, If you have a little package, you will buy in for a huge buy in. Got it? |
