6-max tables
Is 6-max tables considered shorthanded?
If you are playing in a 5 ot 6 handed game, what kind of adjustments should be made in starting hand requirements? I think that big cards go up in value and suited connectors go down. Do hands like A8 and K9 become playable? |

Re: 6-max tables
Here in CA, a full ring game is nine players, and there's almost always one or two guys away from the table, so I really don't think six players is that "short".
A big mistake my five and six max opponents make is playing way too loose before the flop. This includes opening, limping after callers, and cold-calling raises. The old adage is if you pretend that the EP's have folded and play your normal game, you won't be making much of a mistake is true. You are right in that you can adjust and play a few more hands, emphasis on high card strength. I live nearby a dozen great places to play live, but I have basically given up live play for shorthanded online. IMO, there is no better game! I suggest you do what I did, set this web page to view every single shorthanded post made in this forum, and read them all. Save those that interest you. |

Re: 6-max tables
ATo is always an open raise. I usually fold K9o in "EP" six handed, but will normally raise from the cuttoff or button. I fold A9o quite a bit UTG, but raise with it otherwise.

Re: 6-max tables
You fold AT in a shorthanded game? 6 max maybe, but I wouldn't. 5 max is an open-raise, without question, in my opinion. But hey, that's what these forums are here for. Disagreement and such.
You may be playing in much different short games than I've played, though. |

Re: 6-max tables
happy to disagree - but - lets agree about what we disagree about
"A10o is always an open raise" - mostly i disagree with the word always - i fold A10o about 5% of the time i get it UTG playing 5 max at paradise - i used to fold A10o about 75% of the time playing 5/10, 10/20, or 15/30 6 max at party i 3 bet pre-flop UTG+1 yesterday in a 10/20 5 max game with 54s - the flop was the sweet 4 K 5 rainbow and $238 later i had the considerable pleasure of showing it to 2 opponents - i defy you to disagree with this play stripsqueez - chickenhawk |

Re: 6-max tables
Agreed that ATo is much more playable in the paradise 5 max than the Party 6 max.
I am mostly talking about Party 6 max tables when I post, should be more clear on that... soda |

Re: 6-max tables
i agree.. i will often fold ATo UTG in the 6 max games.. almost always actually
edit: i just noticed the distinction between 6 max and 5 max games.. sometimes on party 6 max, when not all the seats are filled, i will indeed open raise with ATo in any position.. sometimes i'll do it when we're 5 handed, but 4 handed or less i would probably always do it |
