I had an idea for a book a while back that I thought would be pretty cool. The premise of it is that I set myself the goal of making 100 grand in 100 days.
I would keep detailed records of my progress, including funny or interesting stories from everyday life as well as hands that I played during the day (I'd keep all the hand histories). I will also incorporate poker advice, with the main focus being to entertain and secondary to educate. I thought of this because of a thread where people were speculating about how many 2+2 posters actually make 100k in a year. I got to thinking, "heck I could do 100k in 100 days". So, I've put myself to the test. Tomorrow will be two weeks. The first week was amazing and I totally blew away the goal. I actually got discouraged about the writing and stopped for a couple of days (because it just wouldn't have been exciting). My sister suggested crossing out 100 and putting 70 on the cover. But, then fate stepped in and I hit a fantastic cold streak. I haven't made half as much this week as in week 1, but I'm still slightly ahead of schedule. And I have to admit, it's a lot more exciting now. Enough rambling. I'm wondering if people would be interested in reading something like this? Is the goal of 100k one that is sufficiently high that it will be interesting to my intended market - poker enthusiasts? Should the goal be higher - say 500k in a year? Any feedback is appreciated - good or bad. If I get enough good feedback, I'll probably continue with this. Enough of the bad and you may have just saved me from working on a worthless endeavor. Finally, if this does work out and I really do move forward with it, I'll most likely hire a professional writer. I simply don't have the natural talent that my good buddy davidross does. It seems interesting, but don't go increasing you goal yet. You still have a long way to go.

First off I think a book of this type could do well, and I'd be interested in reading it.
Second, If you have the skills to possibly pull off such a feat why on earth would you want to distract yourself from your game? If money isn't a big issue for you, by all means take it on. btw- I'd expect to see a big flood of online poker books in the near future. |

I'd buy your book in a heartbeat.
But rather than putting education as a secondary subject, make it the primary. My goal is to get to the 15/30 table at PP, one table, about 100 hours per month, and crank out a nice one to two BB per hour. Currently I am at .5/1 at Party, and about to close the month out with a healthy 120 BB for 1.2 BB per hour. If your book can contribute to my goal, and there is no doubt it can, I'm a buyer! |

As was said... if you can make $500k/year playing poker... why waste your time writing a book!? At least until after a few years when you have a nice nestegg in the bank.

I think this is a fun idea, and if you could do it I would probably read it. The thing is, I am not really sure how realistic this is. What games are you playing? What limits? You need to average $1000 a day and if you played 8 hours a day for 100 days, you would have to make $125 an hour. I can't wait to see what happens. Good Luck!

Heh, that's a huge goal, wow. If you could be making 365,000 per year on YOUR time...talk about the life.
If it were me, i'd work only half the days, make 182,000 and fricken relax the other half the days and do fun stuff... Maybe even less... |
