Default Phil Ivey\'s home game

From Phil Hellmuth's latest article in CP:

I am writing this column while playing $100-$200 limit poker at Phil Ivey's condo, which overlooks the ocean in south Los Angeles (nice place Ivey!). With me, enjoying a cocktail or two (or more), are Howard Lederer, Mike Matusow, Annie Duke, Phil Ivey and Andy Bloch.

now there's a home game i don't want to get into.

Wasn't it shortly thereafter when Phil looked around trying to find the "fish" at the table?

That's a game Phil shouldn't want to get into, either.

At least Hellmuth is using good game selection. He should get busted in about 45 minutes playing in that game.

as whiny as phil is and fishy in limit hold 'em, i wouldn't want to sit across from him in a NL game.

Phil is a millionaire, end of story. most money won in tourneys of any player, why do you guys rank on him so much? maybe he plays the game for fun? 100-200, no big deal to rich people. why don't you go win the world series before you criticize phil.

Daryn,
I don't know how sure I am that Phil Hellmuth is a "millionaire." Not that it's my place to say, but I bet his wife, a psychiatrist I think, has a higher salary than Phil averages after expenses a year.

And "I look into their souls" aside, Phil is one of the greatest NL hold 'em tourney players out there. Why does that have any bearing on speculating if he's a fish in live high limit ring games?

Dan

What I don't understand is why there are no animals at this game. My Pelican would make short work of them. How do I know this? Because he is a Pelican.

Daryn,

I think you're on to something. Although it is fairly well-documented that Hellmuth might be somewhat, well, aquatic when it comes to limit holdem, I think people are unduly hard on him.

Of course, the reason everyone's so hard on him is because he has proven, again and again, that he has no idea how to act like a man at the poker table.

Rumor has it he has expelled most of these demons.

I hope he has. He is a hell of a NL tourney player.
