Weird post, I know. But I was sitting at a 2/4 table earlier today and this conversation somehow started (editted my screenname out):
akshawnd: anyone here ever read WINNING LOW LIMIT HOLDEM? me: yes. KJBC2: yup Phideaux: yes me: that book isn't great akshawnd: whoa. akshawnd: i just got it this week. i think it is pretty sweet me: its good for newbies :/ akshawnd: one thing i learned: A4,A5,A6 suck akshawnd: i only play A8 or higher now akshawnd: he says A8 sucks, but i have to play that! KJBC2: you're not playing a computer me: pretty soon you'll be mucking AJo a lot if you ever get better akshawnd: yeah, muck AJ... right After that, he started talking about how he'd made a lot of money playing .5/1 for the past 3 months, and that he'd skipped straight to 2/4 and was now up a lot. I became suspicious and the conversation continued... me: bring what you got [it as in his bankroll, bring as in to the table so i could see] At this point he brought about 2k to the table. me: that is pretty impressive considering you think A8o is good akshawnd: ive been playng w/ haak10_river_chaser a lot akshawnd: he has seen me DOMINATE a lot haak10: he follows me around akshawnd: that is becasue i kicked his ass at .5/1 akshawnd: so i want to take more now akshawnd: today i played some NO LIMIT akshawnd: that was pretty awesome akshawnd: yesterday some dude challenged me to a heads-up match akshawnd: freezergod akshawnd: i DOMINATED him for $200 At this point I really began to suspect he was pulling my leg, one way or another. So: akshawnd: [my screenname] - have u played for long? me: yes me: not on party though me: at this point me: i am about 90% certain you are joking me: and know that those hands suck etc me: or me: theres a chance you are on one of the luckiest runs ever me: either way its quite amusing akshawnd: well, i dont know if im lucky or not akshawnd: but i do know i kick ass at poker So what do you guys think? -Brian |

thats a pretty common dialog, don't let it affect your play. just b/c he has 2k doesn't mean he earned it and it is not unusuall for a weak player to go on a huge several month long winning streak,(or vice versa) given how many play at party there are probably several hundred of those types at any time. the looser the play the biger the swing, both down and up, the net will be down, but sometimes this won't happen for months to a year or so.

I've seen him around, but I haven't made up my mind about him yet. Moving his entire BR to the table is a standard move for him...I've seen him do it about a half dozen times already.
He's too loose and maybe a little too aggressive, but he also seems to have a basic understanding of correct play. He gets paid off a lot because he's so damn chatty that he confuses his opponents into calling when he has a hand or folding when he doesn't (i.e. don't be fooled). Maybe a minor threat, but I'm not worried. jHE EDIT: Actually, I'm pretty sure I was at this table. |

Brian,
My question is why do you insist on correcting this player? Do you feel the need to prove your HE knowledge? There's no reason to talk about how he's going to be folding AJ one day or trying to convince him that anything he's currently doing should be improved. Even if he is fooling around, other people at the table are reading this info. I think there's a time and place to help players, but doing it at the table is not one of them, at least if you like keeping an edge. Cup |

You forgot to mention that you would be willing to kick back the referral bonus at Party to anyone interested.

I love it when people make cheeky/needling comments and put the smiley face after it. For instance: RiverMel, says words like "make peepee" and "tinkle" to describe going to the bathroom. |

I think he has a vendetta against me or something. He seems to figure out which games I'm in and sit down at my table. I don't have any notes on his play because I generally play 3 games at once. I do remember seeing some loose preflop calls and some aggressive raises. I find the chatter amusing. I did see him in the .5/1 games previously.

Last night playing 3/6 on Party at a table with about 50% seeing the flop, there was one player who was in 90% of the hands. He hit some hands like 9 2 and was up to almost $400. but in less than an 1/2 hour he was at 0. After he left the table a couple of players started talking about how foolish he was playing all those hand etc.I'm wondering why are these guys enlighting the others who were also calling about 50% of the time? The table went from 50% preflop to about 25%.
