I have been invited to a home Spread Limit Holdem game.
1-5 on all streets with a $2 and $5 blind structure. I have played $3-6 holdem for a year now and done quite well thanks in-great-part to the great advice of players here at 2 + 2. What I would like to know is the general philosophies of betting and hand selection for each street. How does the spread limit aspect of this game change the way I play. Any and all info will be greatly apprieciated. |

First off, I'm not the most familiar with spread limit games, but aren't those big blinds for a 1-5 game? I always thought they were generally smaller (like 1-2 or something)
Basically the way I see it, implied odds are basically shot in this structure, which means that playing tight is even more important. Drawing hands are gonna be tougher to play since you don't get a big payoff when they hit. Make sure to raise you big hands the max to make the odds for your opponents as bad as possible. |

I think that you have to play a fair number of hand, because the blinds are 1.4 big bets, and if the game is passive, you should be able to get into a lot of hands. You also should notice that you can bet a big bet immediately, so once you have a made hand, you should play to punish drawing hands the maximum as soon as possible. That would include preflop if you have a big pair.

I agree with you, Bob. See the flop as cheaply
as possible with drawing or mid to small pairs. Once I've made the hand go large. Thanks |
