Isnt calling here and give it up if the flop contains an ace or a king (otherwise get it all in, bet or c/r) a pretty OK line for hero?

From what I've been told, limp-raises almost always signify extreme strength pre-flop (KK or AA). The fact that he's shortstack might change the situation a bit, however, as he could easily open up his hand range out of desperation. Still, he checked his posted blind probably to get more money in the pot before he could stuff it in later actions.

if AK is the only hand in his range you are not dominated by then we should fold preflop.
