Questionable laydown?
$2 to $5 anytime game.....I'm the blind in the 10 seat, next to maybe the worlds largest (plump) dealer. This is the dealers first night in this room, he moved from another casino I think. I get 83o and its unraised so I get to see a flop.
1 seat is a rock (although pretty much a A-hole personality) and he always gets my attention when he is in a hand but he has been snapped by a group of bad players all night. I also know I'm going to get atleast a bet if not a raise from the 6 seat who is a play any two, see you at the river maniac. Flop.... Kd 8c 3d I decide on a checkraise, knowing that there is going to be a bet from the maniac. 1 seat bets $2? This concerns me because I think he might be trying to trap here. 3 callers to the maniac who raises, 1 caller to me and I bump it. 1 seat re-raises me and all drop to me. This is where it gets tough.....I feel that the one seat has the trips, this guy usually only bets the nuts and since I already thought there was some sort of trap I'm kicking myself for not getting a free turn card but I wanted to eliminate the weak limpers who might catch a better two pair. I can't see the 1 seats face because the dealer is to big to see around. I take a minute and finally decide to muck. The hand is over in my mind, but as the dealer pushes the 1 seat the pot he says "good time to go all in." The 1 seat says "yeah, since I just had an ugly flush draw" and throws his cards face up into the middle of the table showing 109d. I was steamed right then and there. 1. why didn't the player delcare all in or why didn't the dealer tell me the bet was all in. 2. becasue of the size of the dealer and our positions at the table I couldn't read the player or see that he was all in. 3. why flaunt this hand in my face? I called the dealer out about not announcing the all in and he said he didn't realize it until I mucked but that because the player had raised the full amount, not a partial bet that he was not required to announce the all in. I let it be known that I thought it was B.S. and got up and took a break for the dealers remaining 5 minutes or so of this down. Is there any obligaiton from either the player or the dealer to announce that a player is all in? It seems apparent now that I made a bad laydown since the hand is over, but based upon the info given above did I make the right laydown? |

Re: Questionable laydown?
Not sure about the rules for announcing all-in, but regardless, you should not depend on the dealer for that information. These types of rules change from house to house.
It's a good habit to be aware of player stack sizes at the table before any hand starts. E.g., don't bother calling $2 in EP if your hand can't stand a raise, when MP/LP has less than $10 in front of him. Get a seat change to view the entire table of chips if you need to. "why flaunt this hand in my face?" ... "I was steamed right then and there" Obviously, given your reaction, showing down his hand was a +EV move. |

Re: Questionable laydown?
very nice way of putting it. one should be aware of shortstacks on one's table.
i also love the limping line... b |
