Default Final Table strategy?

Once you guys reach final table, do any of you have a specific strategy?

Last night i went into a final table for a 20 dollar 180 person sit n go as the chip leader. I went down to 40,000 after 2 hands and kind of went into defensive mode just waiting around for premium cards. I played a pot here and there but once we got down to 6 i was at 26,000. The table was not playing tight at all so i couldnt steal blinds which really threw me off my game because thats what i do alot during the small sit n gos.

My strategy once i hit 26,000 was to just wait out for the lower guys to get knocked out unless i got my big cards. Once we were down to 4 i had 18,0000 and was shortstack, big big stack raised with everything, i pick up A10 and push back he calls , he has K10 diamonds and flushes me out of the tourney.

I just want to restate, is it bad to go into defensive mode at this point? The reason my stack got down to 18,000 was b/c of unsuccessful steals. Whats your strategy here?
