My thoughts...

I think betting 4th is bad, calling 5th is really bad, and I should have bet 7th(maybe?).

Betting fourth is fine for deception (if your opponents even care about that at $1/2), but calling on fifth is godawful. Get out.

Check fourth and I might even consider folding. Fifth is a definite fold but you know that.

I think betting fourth was fine, although I think checking and calling would be better. Calling on fifth was pretty putrid. Betting the river would be kind of silly.

Thanks for the replies. Ive been making terrible plays like this all week...it needs to stop. btw, now that I look at this I was being results oriented when I thought I should maybe bet this river. The guy with the other low board had two pair and I won the low.

Random thoughts and one HUGE lead for you 8/bers...

I havent been playing much lately because I was running hot playing HE but this past week there have been a lot of stud8 games on PR that are amazing. It has mostly been 2-4 game that this one guy starts everyday(he is decent) and almost instantly 4-5 regulars show up who basically play everyhand and dont understand the rules. The only reason I am telling the forum this is because I swore off the game after I dumped about 400 there this week. It was probably due to bad play, tilt, and over aggression against people who just dont fold, but there were also some terrible beats. I know I wont be playing there anytime soon(Im cursed there) so I advise anyone who plays on PokerRoom to get in that game NOW. It will probably be dry in a week or two I would imagine. It is really the best game you will ever see...im not kidding. GO, NOW, I cant im cursed...but you need to RUN!

Perhaps I will check it out. I'll try to find rakeback for PokerRoom and load it up! Thanks for the info.

I would prefer to check 4th, but don't think that betting is an awful play. I don't think calling 5th is so terrible, either.You need to get a 2,4,or 6 to make what could be the best low. Seat 6 will need a 6 low to beat you, & you will make about 3 to 1 on your money if you win. After I hit the 6 of spades, I'm betting 6th & 7th. Apparently this is wrong, huh?

The reason everyone is saying the 5th street call is bad because:

1. seat 8 likely has either a made 6 low with a high draw or else a draw to a 6 low along with a pair and straight draw.
2. seat 4 probably has two pair or at worse aces or a 4flush with some low cards.

3. Hero has a two way hand, but the best reasonable scenario is that he's drawing to the second best hand in both directions, and the worse is that he's being absolutely crushed both ways.

4. Hero can't scope without showing a super scary board, so he won't get much action even if he hits.
