depends on the cost and the money in the pot.

It is all about odds.
actual and implied (although I don't rely on implied)

If the odds are good enough, I will be there

A real poker question???

First I'd suggest you pick up a copy of Theory of Poker by D. Sklansky. That was the most important concept I learned in there.

Pot odds -odds the pot is giving you at this moment If there is $80 in the pot and you have to call a $10 bet to peel one off, then your pot odds at that point are 8-1

Implied Odds - these are the odds you resonably expect to get via further action on the turn and river. If someone raised before the flop and you suspect they have a big pair that they will keep betting even when you hit your hand, or that at the very least people will call bets you make after making your hand.... you have implied odds.

Reverse Implied Odds -Now it works the other way too, If the preflop raiser is yet to act behind you, you now have less odds to call a bet on the flop and peel one off, as there is a good chance that the preflop raiser will raise on the flop, at which point you will be forced to put in an extra $10 (assuming 10-20) to draw, which lowers your overall odds when considering calling the initial flop bet.

Odds you hit - these are the chances you hit the card you are looking for, when going for a gutshot, w/o overcards it is about 1-11

Sooo....... Add your pot odds and implied odds and reverse implied odds and if they are greater than your odds that you hit then you have a call

It is the turn, you have the Ac2c and the board is KcQc6h7h. The other player bets $10 into a $30 pot. Right at this moment a cocktail waitress spills a tray of drinks onto your opponent who flashes you his cards which are AsKs. Your actual odds are 37-9 to make the flush or 4.11-1 and the pot is offering 40-10. If you would be all-in for the $10 then you should fold here. But with one round of betting left the implied odds are a little higher because when you hit your flush you may win a bet or two on the last round of betting. This makes it a good call.

Maybe that's because it's the first time you've posted anything that wasn't simply mindless blathering.

Default Hmm, OC\'s new gimmick - asking questions he already knows

Maybe next time you can ask how to buy a free card.

Default I am embarassed to admit

that only today did I fully realised how stupid, immature and annoying this guy is, and decided to delete him from AIM. I had always tried to encourage and support human diversity but this guy is too "diverse".
My god please stop saying that I am OC, yikes!
