How do you Defend Against Pure Bluffs?
I don't want to give too much away by people stealing from me, since I play tight, and I do drop hands, I understand I make my calls on the end by deciding my chances of winning the hand vs the pot odds, I am secure with my bluffing strategy using game theory and pot odds according to my opponent, but I want to defend myself against other good players who are going to be bluffing me, and I'm not talking about dropping, 72 offsuit against a killer board, I'm talking about knowing when to try a medium strong hand against a tricky opponent, or someone who bluffs a little to much....The bottom line is this, I feel I have a gap when it comes to defending myself vs bluffs

Call more often on the river.
When is the last time you called on the river without a pair? |

Re: How do you Defend Against Pure Bluffs?
OK, I'll try calling more often thanks, I usually play low limit holdem and I just don't people to always run over me, so I'll pitch in some more calls in moderation, and also if I have top pair

Re: How do you Defend Against Pure Bluffs?
do more river raising instead of turn or flop raising
i was watching a $80-160 hand AA raised got it to 3 bets on the flop, raised the river against someone who flopped top pair. I thought it was a neat way to mix up when to value raise. |

Re: How do you Defend Against Pure Bluffs?
A lot depends on who has position..you or bluffer.
But here are some ideas: Induce more bluffs by check-calling..(Tend to raise with vulnerable hands..example (QJ) JT23 on board, and check call or rope-a-dope all the way with less vulnerable hands (if opp is dumb enough to bet all the way). Rope-A-Dope=just call him all the way, and bet the river with top pair (or less). And if you have a good reason for calling on the turn with A high or other marginal hand, might as well call him down on river. Another key is putting him on a range of hands, for example you'd be BETTER OFF paying off ANY opponent that check-raised a 9T2 flop THAN a KT2 flop from their BB after you raised on button.(assuming you can beat a bluff, and assuming turn and river are not coordinate with flop). |
