Common spot with an overpair
Hero has been quiet thus far, not many playable hands at your typical 100-max @ Stars. My stack is ~ $100, villain $150. Villain has been running well and showing down good hands. I haven't seen him in a whole lot of pots and he definitely hasn't got out of line. Not quite ready to say TAG but ........
folds to Hero in MP who opens to $4 w/ K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] all fold to BB who calls. FLOP: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($8.50) BB bets $8, Hero raises to $20, BB calls $12. TURN: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($48.50) BB checks, Hero ? I would like to discuss all of the options at this point. I know it seems boring but I would like to here some default lines, general thoughts, etc. I will of course add my at some point. |

Bet and fold to a raise. Repeat on river.

How is he going to bet the river and fold to a raise? I bet $30 now and if he calls I shove it in on the river. Your last chance to fold is if he raises the turn all in and that would be pretty read dependant. |

Re: Common spot with an overpair
I just don't know how to play this given my read. Against a Donk I am betting $30 here and the rest on the river a large % of the time. But against (at least what my read indicates so far) a decent player I think I am in trouble after he calls the flop bet. Seems very unlikely he has AQ in this spot. Because the times I am ahead against AQ make up for when he has a set or better?
My question is this: everyone agrees that betting here and folding to a raise is superior (and more +EV) than checking here and calling a bet on the river? Betting $30 here and then folding to a raise sucks. I bet $30 here and I have committed the rest of it. Problem is, I am forced to guess on the river a lot and have given him infinite odds w/ lots of hands on the turn. |

[/ QUOTE ] I dont see any real problem with checking behind on the turn and then call his inevitable river bet either. If you think he can ONLY have AQ or a set, thats what I would do. |
