Default Maximizing value against fish with overpair/TPTK

Both of these hands were played at the same table, which was running about 45/3. I was in LAG mode, with stats of about 35/15/4 while I was there.

Both hands were also against same villain, who had stats of 41/3.1 over about 100 hands.

------------------
Hand 1:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed) converter

UTG+2 ($23.40)
MP1 ($34.80)
MP2 ($16.50)
Hero ($33.10)
CO ($27.86)
Button ($57.25)
SB ($13.16)
BB ($12.75)
UTG ($5.75)
UTG+1 ($25.45)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
UTG calls $0.25, <font color="#666666">4 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $1</font>, CO calls $1, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, UTG calls $0.75.

Flop: ($3.35) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
UTG checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $2</font>, CO calls $2, UTG folds.

Turn: ($7.35) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $7</font>, CO folds.

Final Pot: $14.35

Thinking here was that now there is a possible flush and straight draw on the board, I decided to try and end the hand now.

------------------
Hand 2:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (8 handed) converter

CO ($24)
Button ($28.30)
Hero ($27.75)
BB ($34.36)
UTG ($57.60)
UTG+1 ($15.16)
MP1 ($12.75)
MP2 ($29.45)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. CO posts a blind of $0.35. Hero posts a blind of $0.10.
<font color="#666666">4 folds</font>, CO (poster) checks, Button calls $0.25, Hero (poster) completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($1.10) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(4 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">BB bets $1</font>, CO folds, Button calls $1, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $3</font>, BB calls $2, Button folds.

Turn: ($8.10) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">BB bets $1</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $6</font>, BB folds.

Final Pot: $15.10

Villain was BB, so 52, or at least a gutshot, would have been a possible (if unlikely) holding. Would I have been better off just check/calling this down?

----------------

Basically, did I get the maximum out of this guy?

I think both these hands are about what he is putting you on - inhand one he either thinks you have J8 (unlikely) or a big overpair - correct
In hand two he thinks you hit AJ or already had A 2 pr- he almost certainly had Ax not paired or a small pocket pair 55,66 etc

Preface: I'm still a NL newb...

Also, please don't show results.

Hand 1: I would pot the flop.

Hand 2: Not sure how I'd play... maybe call down, but I'm not sure. With ATs I'd rather hit the flush or at least 2 pair before getting very aggressive with it. I can't argue with your results though.

Yeah, I forgot to cut those last couple lines.

My simple strategy here was to play passively until the board started to look scary and then try to take the pot down with a large bet.

Is this the wise course of action, or is this sort of fanciness just stupid?

Definitely should have cut those lines, heh.

Hand 1: pot flop, 2/3 the pot on the turn.

Hand 2: I don't like c/r-ing the flop. You are OOP, building a pot with a vulnerable hand. Leading this flop is better IMO. Fold to a raise.

c/c is also a reasonable option. It gives you the oppurtunity to see what action develops/keep you out of potential trouble. c/c and re-evaluating the turn is ok.

ABC poker at these levels is the best way to maximize EV.
