Re: AJo on the button
What are you expecting to hit with AJo here? Are you only going to get your money in on the AAA, JJJ, or KQT (rainbow of course, can't let someone possibly beat you with a flush!) flops?
Of course you get your chips in here, and of course you lose to the bad beat. Oh well. That's poker. |

Re: AJo on the button
First, I think you selected the wrong forum for conversion so some of the tags (like the colors) aren't working. You need to make sure you select 2+2.
You got trips with the best kicker. No way you're not putting all your money in there. |

Re: AJo on the button
Thats the thing thats nagging me...I don't think its a bad beat. Its trips, best kicker but so vulverable and for all my chips and possibly against 4 opponenets.
Like I said, I'm not ever laying this down, I was just curious if anyone would. Sorry Lloyd, I'll try harder next time on that converter stuff. |

Re: AJo on the button
I would raise PF and fold to UTG's push.
If I limped in on button I would put all my chips in everytime on that flop. |

How I see AJ played (proceed with extreme caution)
JahRed -
You really should start hating yourself for limping in with this hand in late position. JAo is THE poop hand of the so called "2nd tier" hand list. It's just not a hand you're ever going to building much value with, be it on a raise or a limp. It's not a drawing hand, like 78s, where you want four limpers with the hopes of hitting a flop with great expected value written all over it. Of course, there is that RARE situation where you can outkick your opponent, JA v. JK or have a guy eager to play his 1010 against that one J on the board. But, of course, in those situation you only want ONE OPPONENT on the flop. Your limp basically opened the door to a multiway where, even with a "nice" flop, you may be looking at best a race. When I have AJo in early position, I like to limp and perhaps call a late position raise given that I'm getting 2 to 1. Even then, I like to know a little information about my late position player - the more aggressive he is, the more likely I'll call and see what the flop brings. Whenever I'm in late position with AJ, assuming a mid position limper, I'm raising. I want at least one blind out. In fact, I wouldn't mind taking the pot right there, relying on my AJ on the flop only if I have to. Think about it - At best, most of the time, I'm getting about 60% ahead on the flop against ONE opponent. The rest is all downhill. When the flop comes up, if the "J" hits, I can get fancy. If not, then perhaps if I know my player well enough, I can feel the texture of the flop and make a bluff or even induce a bluff in certain unique situations. In this instance, it was your limp preflop that cost you. Definitely not the call on the flop. That call was just fine, no regrets Unfortunately, when you called QJ, you were basically giving either blind the proper odds to call himself. Had you raised, say, to T450, you may have not run into this predicament. I should add that this is a very difficult beat, of course, hitting two J J with your inconspcuous hand, then having the fortune of having QJ to your right only to then have another two callers, both getting proper odds (I believe). However, that's the hellish nature of an MTT, controlling luck preflop is one of the biggest keys to winning one of these things. |

Up until your post, I hadn't thought about hating myself
Now I do. Thanks |
