Default hated this hand

ten handed online 30/60. all folded to me and I raised on the button with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Only the BB calls. I only have ~15 hands on him, but he seems slightly loose aggressive.

Flop Q-T-9 with a diamond. He check raises and I call.

Turn 8. He checks, I check.

River J. He bets, I call.

How would you have played it differently?

check the flop... if you bet the flop, easy fold to the checkraise.

Why would you check the flop flawless? Im keeping an open mind, but I would bet here and if im called on this board I would not invest another bet unless I improve.

this flop hit every texas holdem hand, but A7... a free card might be an A or a diam.

This is a very good point flawless, and against 2 opponents I would never bet this flop with no hand. But against one opponent, I still get tempted to bet the flop in case he might hold 22-77 which he might fold, or a small suited connector. But like I said before If my flop bet gets called I am investing no more bets in this hand.

If I check the flop, don't I risk losing to, say, a 75o that wouldn't call a bet but instead bets me off the pot?

I probably should have folded to the check-raise, but you get check-raised so often on the flop in these situations in this game, that sometimes I get carried away and play on with some not-to-good hands.

Youre concern is valid, but you can also lose the pot by betting. Since you should usually fold if checkraised on this board, betting can cost you the pot also, since if you take a free card on the flop you may improve to the best hand or a strong draw. Im not saying you should check this flop as I too would bet the flop, just giving you something else to consider. Overall I think it is very close between checking this flop or betting it, and I dont think it really matters in the long run which approach you choose. However if you continue to bet the turn unimproved after youre called on this board then youre throwing your money away.
