Foxwoods report from Sat 5/24
So I figure a rainy Saturday is the perfect time to hit Foxwoods. A late start and brutal traffic give me a 1 pm arrival, the parking lot's not too packed so I wonder if the room will be full. Silly thought - it's a zoo. Every game, every limit has a big list (50 or 60 table room) The 4-8 and 5-10 HE lists are 50 names deep for 3 tables each. The 2 5-10 Omaha games have 30+ names, the 10 tables of 1-5 stud have a 100 name list. The normal 60 entrant tournament was capped at 200 players !
3 hours later (and down 100 at craps) I finally get a 4-8 seat. Couple hands in I get a good chuckle on a hand that I'm merely a specatator. Couple of preflop raises, on the turn its down to 2 players. Late position player with mountain of chips has been leading each round, UTG 80 year old guy calling. River 7 puts 789T on board, UTG bets. Big winner says "you gotta be shitting me" and tosses in his call knowing he's facing a straight but it's than he thinks. UTG turns over 46 offsuit for the straight, loser chucks his cards and the rest of us shake our heads. Calling a raised pot preflop with 46o UTG AND sticking around for non-nut inside straight draw, yowza ! I think I'm gonna like this table and I'm right but not how expected. 15 minutes later I limp from the SB with 8Ts, flop brings a sweet 48T. I decide to slow play all the way and check, Big winner dude bets, I'm the only caller. Turn 3, I check and call his bet. River brings the perfect 10 for the lock boat, I try my hesitant act and bet and he thinks I'm trying to steal it or he's got something cuz he raises. Great, I re-raise and then I'm shocked when he re-re-raises. I re-re-re-raise and say "i'll cap it", to which dealer and 3 players say "no cap when head to head". He comes back with raise #5, ok, I raise back with raise #6 and figure we must be splitting. He then says "I'm so stupid" and calls. He's got 7T ! I almost feel guilty raking in a $140 pot in a 4-8 game with $56 of it from one player on the last round. Almost. The old insane dude eventually lost his dough and despite horrible cards hour after hour it was a fun table (same couple good players sitting by me for 10 hours) and I turned a decent $150 profit. I'm convinced more than ever that lower limit players online are FAR better than their casino counterparts. The weekend casino crowd is there to play and there is a time limit. It's 5-8 players seeing every flop and people chase everything. Online the hands come fast and furious and you can play every day so people are much more selective. If everyone online played like half the low limit casino players I would never work again. |

Re: Foxwoods report from Sat 5/24
I didn't play 4/8 on Saturday. I was asking about a player who plays wildly and plays at every limit from 2/4 to 20/40.

Re: Foxwoods 200 Players In Saturday Tourney
Wow. The Saturday tourneys normally got around 100 players. 200 players is amazing. I wonder if that's because it was Memorial Day holiday and/or because of the World Poker Tour on tv attracting new players. If anyone plays this Saturday or in the future it would be interesting to see if the number of entrants holds up. A recent post from Fossilman said that the Tuesday no-limit tourney at Foxwoods a few days ago also maxed out at 200 players. My feeling is that the WPT on tv must be attracting a lot of new players in the same way (or even more so) than the movie Rounders did. Can't wait to jump into the fray at Foxwoods.

Re: Foxwoods 200 Players In Saturday Tourney
I think the bad weather along with it being a holiday weekend made the tournament a success.
The novelty of the WPT will wear off soon. Michael |
