Default Settle a Football bet for me

A co-worker and I were discussing a recent college football game where at the end of the game one of the teams throws a hail-mary. The line of scrimmage was their own 30 yard line, and the QB threw the ball all the way to the end-zone (70+ yards).

This led to a discussion about how many starting NFL QB's could do the same (i.e. throw the ball 70+ yards in the air). So I have come to 2+2 to help settle the issue.

I say 2/32. Vick and Favre. That's about it.

Maybe Manning.

But no where near the 8/32 needed for 25%.

Only the best QBs can throw it through the goalposts from the 50 yard line. On their knees.

I think strickly throwing for distance with no one else on the field you would be surprised how many could do it.

I remember reading once that Testaverde is ambidextrous. They tested him and he hit a receiver 70 yeards with one arm and 50 with the other. That's crazy! But that was years ago.

You're way off. Do you seriously think that Culpepper can't throw it 70 yards (especially since you think Manning can)? McNabb? I bet it's more than half and probably more than 75%.

It's a really tough question because they rarely have long ball contests, no one ever ends up throwing it that far in a game. Maybe the Pro Bowl should add this to the skills contest, and finally settle the debate.

They have the QB challenge every year which includes the long throw. I could only find the results from 2002 and it's only a handful of players.

(3) LONG DISTANCE THROW
Quarterback First throw Quarterback Final results
Aaron Brooks-69....Aaron Brooks- 73
Tom Brady-65.......Peyton Manning- 68
Jake Plummer-65....Jake Plummer- 67
Jeff Garcia-65.....Jeff Garcia- 66
Peyton Manning-64..Tom Brady- 65
Doug Flutie-62.....Doug Flutie- 63
