1st post in a while, and its preflop
Preflop: Hero is SB with T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
UTG raises, 1 fold, CO calls, Button 3-bets, Hero... UTG is a slighly laggish tag, CO is a calling station on a mad hot streak and button is a preflop maniac. UTG is likely to call 2 cold with a fairly wide range in this spot, CO is calling with any two for any amount. Button has a history of 3betting with ragged aces irregardless of the preflop raisor, position or the number of players in. |

Re: 1st post in a while, and its preflop
It's between call and cap IMO. I would cap for a few reasons:
1) Your hand compares pretty solidly against everyone's ranges from what you've described in your post (equity edge). 2) You can increase the chances that BB folds. 3) Calling allows you to keep the pot smaller and checkraise button. However, the pot might be capped anyway and I think increasing the chance BB folds is worth more than an increased ability to checkraise button on a favorable flop. |

Cap if there is any chance UTG will fold AJ or QJ or 2 overcards. I think there is so I cap.

Re: 1st post in a while, and its preflop
I think call. First, I assume everyone agrees that capping doesn't really do much in terms of trying to get initiative on the flop, since so many people cap with little anyway (and others know that). From the description of the OP, it doesn/t sound like there is reason to believe that the cap will make UTG fold. And I don't think it really matters much if BB folds.

Re: 1st post in a while, and its preflop
It is my hunch that the chances of an UTG fold (to a cap) are possibly higher than one might initially think.
I've seen 70/50 players who LOVE to cap fold in situations like this. I'm probably capping here. There's even the small chance the nobody has an ace and if the flop comes A-high you can take it down (regardless of whether UTG folds PF or not). |
