Re: JJ meets half pot river bet
I think I'm calling here, without a further read.

Re: JJ meets half pot river bet
Should I have put a $15 blocker bet on the river then?

Re: JJ meets half pot river bet
Don't think that would accomplish anything, in this case I think check calling the river is superior to betting at it, no draw landed that you want to block. You want a cheap showdown, or you want him to throw in chips with a worse hand.
The way this hand played is a little confusing, because I'm having a hard time thinking of a hand that would raise preflop and then call down whit this board, and then bet on the river. AKs ? if so, that's unfortunate, but I think you definately have to call here. |

Re: JJ meets half pot river bet
I'd call this. It looks to me like he was on a spade draw and is now trying to bluff.

Re: JJ meets half pot river bet
I almost want to say standard call.
he went c/c c/c then you induced a bluff well played, call and take the pot |

Re: JJ meets half pot river bet
I'd call this. The only hand that really worries me is AsKs, but I think you win in this situation at least half the time so make the call.

Re: JJ meets half pot river bet
I'm leaning towards fold. Yeah pot odds are a little better than 3 to 1 ($15 for $50 pot), but I usually go with Sklansky (TOP), which says not to call a river bet unless u're approximately 55% or more sure that you have better hand. Here I'm not confident since you have mid pair.

Re: JJ meets half pot river bet
I think most of the time (more than 50% ) you are beat here.
I think he had a KX spade draw and hit his king. there aren't a lot of people that postoak bluff at this level. that said, the pot is offering you tremendous odds to call the 15 so inspite of everything I still think its a call as there is some value in knowing what he would make that bet with. and blocker would be a bad idea. blocker should only be used for the most aggressive of players where you would be willing to call say 15 but not anymore or you think he would call your 15 river bet with a worse hand and raise with a better one. I don't think this case applies here. |

Re: JJ meets half pot river bet
I wasn't sure what to think of his turn call. I felt sure he would check the river since no draws made it. When he bet half the pot on the river, I felt like he had been slowplaying something strong like a set. Or he had made something like two pair with KT. So I folded.
He had A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. It's hard for me to relate to these bluffs, because I never use them. I can't imagine what kind of junk goes on in people's heads when they want to bluff. It's my general impression that people are more often than not calling down on the river with any piece of the flop, so why bluff with Ace high? Honestly, what was this guy thinking (so I can better understand these players)? A guy bets into him on the flop and turn, then checks the river. The King didn't scare me, but the Ten does? He really senses enough weakness to believe that I will fold? It obviously worked, but I just didn't think he would be that clairvoyant. |
