Default How to get outplayed by a maniac.

Saw maniac tilt off his stack at other table, comes to our table and proceeds to accumulate stats of 91/70/2.23 all the while stacking people left and right by hitting when it counts

Hand 1

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) converter

Hero ($214.55)
BB ($299.45)

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Hero posts a blind of $1.
UTG calls $2, MP :#A500AF(Crazy Lunatic)/ raises to $15, 2 folds, Hero (poster) calls $14, 1 fold, UTG folds.

Flop: ($34) 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)

Why call? Implied odds that I'd get the rest of his stack, didn't work out, he folds turn.

anybody want to guess villain's hand? I'd just like to venture that I clearly got outplayed by villain here, I pushed because I thought that he'd call off his stack with a weaker hand. anybody dislike my line?

After this hand lunatic leaves with 100 of my money and the table screams after his hit and run.

This is a thinly veiled bad beat post but also educational, extreme LAGS/tilters can get away from their hands when they're clearly beat, but they'll let people make mistakes and get all their money in when they're behind and take advantage of their image that they'll call off anything.

lunatic has either 74 or 79. That is my most likely guess.

He also could have 88, AA, QQ , or 66 but I don't think it is as likely.

I guess Maniac had 74 or 97.
I think this maniac is a good player.
I often loose my money to Maniacs.
In the old days, I think Maniacs are fishes.
After burned by Maniac a few times. I try to avoid play against Maniacs.

The problem I had with Maniacs is that it is hard to put them on a hand. A typical Maniac play is to call a big raise with rags such 86, if it hits they will win your whole stacks. Many pockets aces lost to 86 in a board like K86.

Is there a math calculation to show 86 calls 4-8xBB PF raises a positive EV? If assuming the raiser will likely to bet more or don't believe Maniac had a real hand since he has the Maniac image.

You outplay maniacs preflop-- not postflop. Get 10+% of the money in preflop, and they never have the odds to outdraw you with a worse hand.

In the flopped FH hand-- check turn if you check the flop.

Set of 5's hand looks fine. He calls with 2 pair or a slowplayed overpair on that board every time.

I played a maniac today who was extremly passive preflop limped almost all his hands even KK with limpers in the pot, almost never raised or reraised and tottly insanely agressive postflop.
He was very hard to play against and was making some money but finally succumbed when the whole table became callingstations .

Was that TOP that said if you watch a good NL player play really bad players, he'll be trying to limp almost all his hands?

I used to bank at play money doing that :-P

First, there's a huge difference between a LAG and a tilter, but I assume you know that. You make it seem as if Villian made huge laydowns when really he probably held very little. So, really he was making the mistakes, not you. You claim that you got outplayed in that hand, but you know you didn't; even maniacs get lucky sometimes. If he has a higher set or a straight, then fine, that happens once in a while with a player like this. However, if you really want to analyze this hand, from Villian's betting patterns, he only bets the flop with a hand. For this reason, you should do a normal reraise and if he pushes, then you can consider folding (although probably still call if he really is a maniac). This opponent seems predictable post-flop based on the hands you posted. You said that he "hit and ran" the table, which implies that he made a lot quickly. Obviously, he got some hands to make this possible.

agreed, he was hitting like crazy, i.e. 84 and hitting runner runner to fill up.

however, like I said the push was unwarranted, a raise would have been fine...however he pushes anyways there and I probably get stacked. so whether I get my money in first by pushing or calling it off i'm getting stacked anyways. ugh. maniacs. lol
