One More Preflop Poll: Raising on the Button
Do the following hands have enough equity (or other reasons) to raise on the button?
In each case, assume there are three limpers in front of you, at least one of the two blinds is likely to call, and a limp/3-bet is a very remote possibility. FWIW, I play a live Commerce 20/40 game that is generally loose-typical preflop and weak-to-typical postflop. |

I raised the three in the middle. I'd raise the other two at times (and not all that infrequently) but I think calling is my default.

In both cases, your position is the same and your ability to play better than your opponents should be the same. So...does it just come down to a matter of equity? And then, KTs has more equity than A8s? I dunno. Maybe? |

[ QUOTE ] KTs has more equity than A8s? [/ QUOTE ] I think it does. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. If the pot is multiway and someone is holding a crappy ace, your equity goes down. It seems less likely that someone will be holding a crappy king in a multiway pot. So, you're a bit more likely to actually hit a king than an ace. That and the fact that KT makes more straights than A8. And T > 8. |

Re: One More Preflop Poll: Raising on the Button
The difference between 99 and 88 is interesting. I've always drawn the line at TT, but I may have to rethink this.
Entity, if you could run the analyses for 99 and 88, I'd be much obliged. (What program is that? It doesn't look like Stove.) |
