What has 40% approval and sits in the oval office?

Page 1A President sinking in ratings Approval sags on range of questions: Economy, Iraq, hurricane recovery By Susan Page USA TODAY WASHINGTON — Americans' views of President Bush and his leadership have soured in the wake of dismay over the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, the course of the Iraq war and the future of the economy. Bush's rating for handling each of those issues dropped to his lowest yet in a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday. Assessments of his personal qualities also fell: For the first time, a majority says he isn't a strong and decisive leader. Bush's overall approval rating is 40%, equaling a previous low. His disapproval is 58%, a new high.</font> Oh it's so nice to have the company of 58% of my fellow countrymen. It's too late for last November, but just in time for 2006! |

Grey,
Thanks for the daily polling update. Nothing better than following the polls closely a mere 400 days before the election. Wait a minute... you're not Grey. |

What has 40% approval and sits in the oval office?
Bill Clinton when he beat Bush SR. You may remeber that Clinton didn't secure even near 50% of the vote thanks to Ross Perot. If not for Perot... Bush Sr. wins, gets to revel in the glory of international policy he (not Clinton) intiated, Bush SR. gets lucky enough to be in office during one of the great Bull markets of our time (thanks to 20 really smart dudes in Silicon Valley), Republicans win the last 4 major elections, and the Democratic party is a thing of the past. God-damn Ross perot. |

No.
Bush Sr. and fissures within the Republican Party are to blame for Ross Perot's 20%, and Bill Clinton's victory. Also I would like to see the study you refer to which shows that Perot's vote would have primarily gone to Bush, and to the magnitude that would have given Bush the win. |

Re: What has 40% approval and sits in the oval office?
That wasn't a brag.
Consider this... for more than a quarter of a century, the American people have not once said "a majority of us support the democrats" You probably have to go back a century to find another era when one of the major parties has not enjoyed majority support even once in a quarter century. Americans do not want the Democrats (they just settle for them when they have to). |

Re: What has 40% approval and sits in the oval office?
1/4 of a century is NOTHING --- six terms. Big deal. Also, there was significant third party play in two of the six. Your "statistic" means nothing, unfortunately, much like the size of my penis.
